Isn't Harold Camping's other prediction October 17 or 21?

They have been in STEREO for over 30 years...but the old stodgy music ..probably sounds better in MONO.. ;D

Didn't realize that. I coulda sworn 106.9 used to be mono. I do remember that it had incredible range back in the 1980's when I first moved here & there were no 80/90 drop-ins.

The world has changed, Popular tastes have changed. But Family Radio is STILL stuck in a time warp. Almost in a grotesque way. I'm surprised anyone beyond Sissy Spacek's mom in Carrie listens to them......

Save for the mention of the website, it's like nothing ever since the '50s happened at Family Radio.....

They are actually MORE conservative in sound now then they were in the late 60's and 70's. Infact, they have gotten more "old" sounding since I left in 1994. I am not sure that it is Harold that is the one driving the overly "old" sound. Some of his minions are more conservative than he is about music.

Following the various threads on Camping's journey get to be interesting.

Some people want to comment on Camping's behavior when sifted through a filter of "good business practice".

Your post seems to comment of Camping's behavior when sifted through a filter of "good musical values practice".

When A PERSON controls an enterprise, and that person is in turn controlled or highly influenced/motivated by his/her religious thinking at the moment, the outcome will appear strange.... unless you, too, share that same "religious thinking at the moment".

Back in the 50s through maybe the 70s some rather conservative religious groups were using music that was following along with societal music trends. Then when the musical tastes of the nation began to change at warp speed, I think some of these religious groups disconnect, and retreated to a very fixed and non-trendy musical style. Nothing you have ever learned by following the music of our culture or reading Billboard magazine has prepared you to understand what goes through the programming process within the brain of Mr Camping and others who have a rather fixed theological direction.

This is a tangent to the discussion of Camping, but as I watch some pretty trendy congregations with pretty trendy music but are still wedded to some very dated (***) theological positions, I wonder if and when the trainwreck will come for them. There is only so much elasticity in our ability to allow our theology and and music get farther and farther apart..

(***) I searched for a more gentle word and didn't find it. I do not use dated as a criticism or negative word... simply a description of items being compared.

Well here it is the twenty-first and we're all still here. Are any of you holding your breathe for the rest of the day? I'm not, just a bunch of wishful thinking by Mr. Camping...sigh....

Not being a true believer, so I guess when the rapture comes. I will be one of the people relegated to the eternal fires of hell...or some such.

Am I worried? No. But if I end up in eternal damnation by the end of the week, I'll take back every negative thing I said about Mr. Camping and his ilk.

I do note that Mr. Camping said that it would be this weekend...or maybe not. He's not so sure anymore.

OK Mr. Camping......Time for your pills and applesauce........

That's unfair and disrespectful of old age. Aside from a slowness of speech he doesn't appear to be any different than he was when I was a kid. Religion is irrational, so you can't argue someone out of a religious position using logic, since they didn't get themselves INTO that position by using logic. Nothing has changed about Hal Camping; he's always believed his Bible interpretations.

Harold Camping is stuck in radio Christianity circa 1960. Well, how many people here are stuck in Top 40 DJ formats circa 1960?

Why do I continue to stick up for Harold Camping, even though he's made ludicrous predictions? Well, as I understand it from knowing people who've worked for him and also from seeing posts here and there, he's always treated his employees well, and never required them to believe in his take on Christianity or in Christianity at all.

As I understand it, one staffer was out with some major illness for a long time and Camping not only paid his medical, but paid him his salary as well. How many employers can any of us point to who've done that?

I also admire that instead of browbeating people about money, he took his own money to prop up Family Radio when needed. That's impressive.
