isn't it funny?

#1. Everyone on radio-info gets upset about live/local air talent being replacd by satellite and voicetracked programming, yet it seems that the majority of users on this board are completely comfortable bashing stations that still are live. e.g. Everyone except longhorn seems to be piling onto the Bull.

#2. You can read posts about how bad things are at KCKL/Malakoff, how all the advertisers are gone, and the station is barely on the air. However, a quick visit to the station will reveal new automation software, live programming from 6-11a, and 3-7p, a new remote vehicle, and a general sense of a high morale from the employees.

#3. How those that post the most here seem to know the least?

Those are valid points and very well worth pondering, 'sweep. Have you checked them (KCKL) out lately or are they still "playing radio" there?<P ID="signature">______________

Interesting observations. The automation software at KCKL is Hardly new and "copied" according to a staffer there. The new remote vehicle is a tradeout. The 6a-11a has always been live with the 10a slot used for the "trading Post". The 3p-7p likewise has been the same with the 6p slot set a side for sports talk when school is in session, etc. If the morale is so high why is the News Director/Sports dir. constantly putting out ads seeking to go elsewhere? Yhe PD knows he wouldn't get hired anywhere else, so he is content at $8.00 an hour. His mprevious experience was adj at gentlemen's bar by Bachman lake. The afternoon person is someone who has minimal experience.Regular advertisers have dwindled, and the few loyal ones are there because of ..you guessed it..trade outs. There are "some" new ones but the billing is and has been down. The "visitation" spin as previous visitations have gone before will show that things are upbeat but once the visitor has left the building on 34 the grey clouds reform. The FCC is just about ready to finalize its fines on the transmitter and EAS violations of two years ago. According to a "field agent's" statement a year ago, cedar creek broadcasting couldn't possibly afford them. So "we" are not out of the loop
on KCKL's situation in particular. Check out their website lately? It's almost three years old with no updates since 2003. There ya go.

I didn't say KCKL was up to the par of KPLX, and I do find it believable that they traded for the remote vehicle, butI have a hard time believing the automation software was bootlegged.

Inexperienced jocks? what do you expect in Malakoff, TX.

Sales down? Probably as long as KYYK's AE's continue to canvass Athens KCKL wil have sales woes.

AS far as FCC woes, I have no knowledge of that. EAS was fully functional when I left (2001), so any difficulties there would have had to been on a successor's watch.

I just feel that your attacks on KCKL are rooted way more in a personal division between you and the GM than on the actual facts. (Where is the News Director's ad, btw)

As for the Bull, I really feel that it is a good station. Ratings might be low, but they are the third, and newest country station in the market. IT will take time to build the reputation and get more office/business/at-work listenership that the two heritage powerhouses have. Live radio is great, no matter what the 12+ aqh says.

The software was provided by a person who does their computer work at the main intersection by the doughnut shop ..hint hint.

Nope. The GM and I don't really know each other, but she is well known in Malakoff as you well know and she likes it that way.

The Newsdirector/Sports Dir. ad is on the TAB.org site/ Look under the town of Poynor, which is close by Malakoff.

You and I had discussions about their FCC woes and I pointed you to the Fcc site and you confirmed it.

True about KYYK sales.Athens as you might also know hates Malakoff for some unknown reason but KCKL could sell in Mabank and Gun Barrel City as well as 7 Points, Tool and Kaufman but no true effort has been made.

Better watch out "sweep"... saying anything postive about the Bull will get you branded as an employee there trying to boost their standing or something. (HA!)

Not that it's that big of a deal, but isn't the Bull the fourth station behind, KNUE, KYKX and KKUS?

I agree with you about live radio. Even when it's bad, it's better than VT or automated stuff.

Edward, you're slipping! Aren't you going to suggest that "Sweep" works for the Bull, too? HA!

From Longhorn:

#1 Actually Breeze, I've not always had complimentary things to say about the Bull, (sorry, but it's true). I just think there is an over abundance of Bull bashing (and right now Dru @ KYKX bashing) going on. And Jerry Russell bashing too. Hey, the man has problems and may not be a good operator or owner, but the personal attacks are just stupid and childish.

#2 I don't know anything about KCKL, so I won't comment. (Gee, wouldn't that be a good example for others to follow? If you don't actually know something, keep quite!)

#3 Becuase they "think" they know something, but don't really... so they hope their opinions or rantings will be confused for reality. I've often wondered how many of the negative posters are actually former employees of some station ... (like the Bull or KYKX or KCKL) and just want to beat up on their former employer. They need to grow up. I'd bet the former bosses or owners of those stations have forgotten them anyway, if they were ever worth remembering in the first place. (OOpss! That's negative, isn't it? SORRY!)

Naw he used to work for KCKL,in previous conversations with him.

As far as slipping is concerned, aren't you in denial about your connections with the BULL or is it just plain BULL in your denial?
