"Local broadcasters" didn't forget their goal of serving the public. If you serve the public, they will listen.

Was the last line in the episode of The Twilight Zone "To serve man", "We're having wha---?" Nope, it was "Its a Cookbook!" Basically corporate radio has been using their cookbook to serve the public! They've been using their cookbook to cook up what they think will give them the biggest profits without seeing what what public wants. 600 stations playing "Coast to coast" will save money, but will anyone listen?

I won't listen to michael savage on whas out of principle.It is a shame what has happened to radio in the past decade!!!

I do not want to listen to coast to coast overnight i would prefer local talk overnight while lying in bed.

I agree 100% with your statements. I too will not listen to Savage, and judging from the callers on Joe Elliott's "Sunday morning talk show", so many listeners do the same and wish Joe was back on the nighttime schedule.

I think WHAS had its best locally produced shows during the 1970s and 1980s when the Joe Donovan and Milton Metz shows were on. Its such a shame (or is it sham??) that Clear Channel has ruined so many heritage clear channel stations with such crap.

As for best locally owned stations, I'd nominate Bill Walters and his WAKY in Louisville. Check it out at www.waky1035.com.

A real good station that was locally owned in elizabethtown in the 80s K 105 owned by byron cowan.His son kevin cowan was program director.they would play full albums and tell you when it started so you could record it.Mark stahr and scott gettle both worked there at some point in there broadcasting careers. They had played this new band i never heard before r.e.m.

I do find michael savage entertaining i simply do not listen out of principle.I believe clear channel does not pay for his show it is free as long as they air the commercials. Always about the almighty dollar.

Maybe joe elliott is waiting around to see if francene gets another offer in another market

Joe is a great person, and did double duty when that time period was vacant. He would work from 9am to 11:45, and then come back and do the 9pm to Midnight shift. I think he even filled in for Clearchannel in another city for a period in the afternoons from the WHAS studios. Yet CC had no qualms about canning him after all that!

Francene is also a great person. I've listened to her show, and emailed comments regarding her topics. More often than not she will respond and thank me for listening. So many hosts could not care less about their listeners. Little things like this help to build an audience. I think she does have her sights for bigger things, and I think we will be lucky to have known her during her stay here. I'd hate to see her go, but she has the talent for bigger things. I know she does TV reporting for Channel 19 in Cincy during her "free" time.

I like John too but what might have been entertaining hasn't proved to be good for a career in radio. He is not in radio at this time.

Good point ;D I think when john said "head in his ass about iraq"is in bad taste no matter what market you are in.
He said that over the air in la referring to his co worker john at kfi it was the beginning of the end for him at kfi.
