Isn't their more to Dallas radio...

...than all of you moaning about each other?

I know this will direct all of the negative energy towards me, but c'mon. If those of you that participated in the constant poking at each other gave half as much effort to improving what is being broadcast to you, Dallas radio wouldn't be the cluttered mess that it is today. I guess you're happy just complaining about issues like Pugs & Kelly, instead of standing up as either a broadcaster or a listener and doing something about it. It's a shame too, because the Dallas market used to be one of the best in the country.

Re: more?

Nah, this is pretty much it. The posts here can be broken down into categories:

- "Hey, did you guys hear" posts that are really just getting attention

- "You're stupid" posts when someone doesn't agree with you

- "Russ Martin is so (insert derogatory remark)" posts

- "Whatever happened to..." posts

- "KVIL was so cool" posts

and last, but not least:

- "Hey, the ratings came out. Guess who sucks..." posts

..and would be pretty funny, if it weren't so true. I'm not trying to be a Rodney King or anything, but why can't differences be set aside and work to make Dallas radio the powerhouse of stations it once was? The city of Dallas deserves better than what it is being force fed.

That's not my intention. :) I just think that the energy here could be directed much more positively. Have any of you guys ever wondered why KLOL and KEGL no longer exist in their respective markets, but Houston has KIOL and Dallas doesn't have a KIGL? Listeners stood up, took notice, and did something about it.

Apathy...

Well, see, now you're just assuming that people in market #5 actually give a damn... which they don't.

The coupla dozen folks that hang out here can't do anything to influence the 19 county, 8 million person Metroplex. All we can do is our little part.

That part, by the way, consists largely of complaining about the apathy of the average listener of Market #5.
______________

You know, Bingo, the same was said about us in November 2004. No way could such a small, insignificant amount of listeners do anything about Clear Channel removing their longtime heritage rock station. With enough petitioning, flyer passing, website building, and word spreading, lo and behold...we got our station back on the air. Even if it is at a different frequency, and has a slightly different call. It can happen, it only takes determination and motivation...but if what you say is true, I'm just pissing in the wind and no one in Dallas gives a damn.

Oh no... we care... it's just that no one here has the volition to do anything about it. I did my part when I found out that KEGL was being turned off... I, as one man, was only able to rally a couple of hundred people. We contacted the Power$-that-Be, and they ignored us. A few score against a few million is going to be a losing battle.

The only option in this market are the options that get ratings. Currently, the ratings indicate that if you do not listen to Hispanic programming, Urban programming, or Estrogen Rock (I thought long and hard about how to edit that, so I hope you know the intent) programming, then you don't matter. That is the message we get.

Sadly, the only way to get a rock station back on the air in Market #5 is to buy one... you got a few million bucks I could borrow?
______________

I wish I just had a few million nickels, but that's just not the case. You know, I wish you and I had known about each other previously. We actually extended our website to include Dallas after the loss of "The Eagle". But we got very little response. Feelers could have been sent out, much like what was done here in Houston, and another broadcaster (It was Cumulus for us) could have used one of their fledgling signals to bring true rock back to the air. I can think of several frequencies in Dallas that would be a good fit for a rock station. It may be a little late to get a replacement for "The Eagle", but God knows bringing real rock back to Dallas can happen.
