Isn't this an exciting offer?

I sent an email to Lite FM praising their station and in the response I got, I was offered a tour of the station next time I'm down in South Florida!

I'll have to take advantage of that next time I'm down!

That's great public relations on behalf of 'LITE'. I don't think you will get that type of response from most radio stations nowadays. If a listener takes the time to offer constructive criticism about their favourite radio station then he or she should be acknowledged or responded to with a reasonable reply - not some type of canned form letter (or nothing at all). By the same token if a listener writes or calls to praise the good things that he or she likes on the station then there should be some reasonable acknowledgement there as well. A tour of the station - now that's the icing on the cake. Good on 'LITE'. Radio stations build their audiences on a lot of positive word-of-mouth. You just announced on here to the entire world that you enjoy 'LITE', you told them about it, and they in return did a good thing for you !

This is the email I sent:

Hello, my name is Kevin. I am from New Jersey. I vacation every couple of years in South Florida and in the summer of 2004, I discovered 101.5 Lite FM. I just want to let you know that it is one of the best programmed stations in the country. The jocks are great, the music is great, and the overall presentation is very entertaining to listen to. I listen to Lite FM online all the time. Although I am not in your target demo, I still greatly enjoy listening to your station.

My hope someday is to get a job in the broadcast industry. It would be a dream for me to work at WLYF.

Thankyou for programming such a great station.

-Kevin

This is Lite FM's response:

Kevin:

Thanks for your e-mail. We're glad that you're enjoying 101.5 LITE FM -- regardless of what demo you're in. Next time you're in South Florida, give us a shout; we'd be happy to give you a tour of the station.

Have a LITE day!

That's great on behalf of WLYF. They think like I did. When people called up to see the station, I always brought them in when I was on the air & let em watch how it worked. One halloween, I told the boss that I was goin shoppin for candy and he asked why. I said that halloween for the most part isn't as fun as it was when we were kids & I wanted to have a halloween party on the air. Boy, did I get a look. I said that it'll come out of my pocket (turned out to be about $75 worth of candy & bags), that the only thing it will cost the station is publicity.

So that nite when I went on air, I called my friend Connie (From "Funky Little Beat" Fame) and said join me for the evening. She came up along with a couple of friends to watch guard the station. I got on the air and said since it was halloween, the party was on the air and if you're in costume, come by the station for your treats. We got a decent crowd thru the course of the evening. They got candy, got to meet Connie & some even got her autographed album.

It's stuff like that....that you don't hear on the radio anymore!

That's not how they do it at WFTL

You can say that again. Here's an example of the opposite.

I called WFTL today.

WFTL delays Boortz's morning show and broadcasts only 3 hours of it, starting at noon.

Shortly after 1 PM, I turned on the radio and heard the exact same thing I had heard yeaterday... I listened to a couple of topics [about teachers unions, guns, hurricane coverage] to make sure it wasn't a rehash.

So I called the station to tell them they goofed, that I had heard the currently playing hour yesterday. (My first thought had been that I could have heard it on web radio from WSB, but, no, I had been working outside, listening to WFTL on my crankable FreePlay radio.)

Did the woman who answered the phone say "oops, thank you for letting us know"? No, she said that maybe Boortz had requested that they repeat yesterday's show. Yeah, sure. Fat chance!

Anyway, I told her I was going to switch to Rush on WIOD and asked her to relay the message.

I wonder if anyone in a position to do something at James Crystal got the message. I wonder if anyone from James Crystal reads this board... and responds. I would welcome a response... on the board or otherwise.

This isn't the first time. Once, a few years ago, I caught them repeating an hour of Laura Ingraham immediately after it played the first time. Someone please get them a P-Touch label maker so they can keep track of their carts and CDs!!!

(In case you're wondering ... no, I didn't mention my name or web site. Just an anonymous call.)

WQAM, WLYF, and WIOD are very good about returning e-mails personally. So is the Florida Marlins Front Office & Broadcasting Office.
