Apparently it's time for "Lunchtime With Mr. Derr" then!

Lampooning "Scientology" is at the root of this. Nine seasons in and he suddenly gets "religion?" Please. The amazing thing about all of this is Hollywood's ongoing love affair with a scheme invented by a sci-fi book writer. Shatner must be kicking himself for not inventing his own. :)

I saw the episode. It was one of their best. Sciencetoligy is is a mystery. They don't want you to know about it until you are hooked. All South Park did was explain what their religion is based on to the masses. S. P. brought it out of the shawdows and they don't like the spotlight. Maybe they are ashamed and embarrased by their beliefs now that they have been made public. If you haven't seen the episode you should. I learned a lot from it. I, also, have to say, S. P. does go over the line occasionally for me. Sometimes I just have to turn it off. This was not one of those times.

I don't know why Isaac Hayes left because of his religious beliefs(or a non religion like Scientology). They have had shows that dealt with religion before(the episode where Cartman and some of his friends form a Christian rock band comes to mind).

Unfortunately,I don't have Comedy Channel so I have to wait until they start showing the Scientology show in reruns so I can find out what it is all about.

Spoiler......

Stan winds up taking a Scientology audit because he wanted to do something free to save money. They do the audit. He turns out a high score. Because of the score the church leaders figure he's the re incarnation of L Ron Hubbard (the founder of scientology) So they have him write scriptures. Then Tom Cruise sneaks into Stan's room and winds up asking him what he thinks of him. Stan says "Your movies are simply just ok" So Tom winds up locking himself into Stan's closet. All kinds of people try to convince him to come out of the closet. The way they do it makes it sound like they are trying to get him to admit he is gay. Then R. Kelly shows up and a parody of "Trapped In The Closet" unfolds. John Travolta (loved their impression of his voice), Nicole Kidmen also show up and try to convince him to come out. Then John winds up in the closet with them. Then R. Kelly theatens to shoot if they don't open the closet door. He then goes in.

Somewhere in between all this they tell the story of what scientologists believe (same way they did Mormans in Season 7's All About Mormans) On the bottom of the screen "This Is What Scientologists Actually Believe"

At the end Stan winds up telling everybody that its a cult, etc etc etc. Then a bunch of people start yelling "WE'RE GONNA SUE YOU." "YOU BASHED OUR RELIGION WE'RE GONNA SUE" (as scientologists apparently do when someone speaks out about them) Stan replies "GO AHEAD SUE ME"

The credits roll and all the names in the end credits are "John Smith" and "Jane Smith"

Apparently, this episode was banned in the UK per Tom Cruise's complaint.

What's strange is when Issac commented on the episode when it aired in November he didn't seem to have any problem with it. He said "They make fun of everybody and every thing"

from the sound of it it looks like he just saw the episode for the first time recently.

Either that or it pissed him off and because of the fact that Season 10 starts in less then 10 days he probably wanted to quit before they asked him to do another episode.

FYI and ironicly enough, Trapped In The Closet (the scientology episode) airs on Comedy Central Wednesday at 10PM EDT and most likely will again on friday.<P ID="signature">______________

"You know, dude, I learned something today..."

Yes maybe a bit of a double standard if the South Park co-creator
(Matt Stone?)'s contention is to be believed--that Hayes was fine
with making fun of other religions but not his own. Once Scientology
was spoofed/savaged (take your pick), he felt like he was getting
the...er... "Shaft" ("But I'm talkin' bout Shaft!") But if he wants to
leave, so be it. His choice.

I tolerate any religion except for the _extremists_ of a religion who
do things like kill the infidel non-believers; as I've said before, I can
tolerate, say, Islam, but when they hijack planes and crash them into
buildings to kill thousands of people, just so they can meet 72 black-
eyed virgins, then I think it's gone too far. It's up to moderate Muslims
to condemn the work of such extremists.

In this country we have freedom of religion (which also means we should
tolerate those who practice it and not get all hot and bothered
when someone holds a "Christmas Parade"--you don't like Christmas
or Christianity, then don't go. Start a parade of your own.) Freedom
of choice. Freedom of speech. etc.

And by the way the whole separation of church and state deal: What that
means is the govt. can't establish a state religion. The USA can't
say, "We'll have the Baptists and the Baptists only here." Or whatever
religion. Freedom OF religion does not mean freedom FROM religion.
You can believe in whatever faith you wish, or no faith at all. Tolerate
those of other faiths (except those who, say, kill in the name of their
religion) and we'll tolerate your faith (or atheism, if need be.)

Comedy Central changed the South Park episode that was supposed to be shown last night. The Scientology episode was replaced with the infamous "salty b@!!s"/Mr. Hankey episode.
