Issues on 87.7, but PIRATES are OK?!?!

From the recent statement from PartyFM, they have decided to no longer broadcast on 87.7 due to the threat of WNYZ going digital and the TV audio will be no more via FCC. What is up with that? The FCC is focused on the LEGAL stations, that pay their dues and follow the rules (mostly some) but it's perfectly fine for pirates to pop all over the band for YEARS and they don't go after them? It was perfectly fine for 87.9 to chop up 87.7, but you can't have a legal station on 87.7. I can bet you, that if someone did a dance pirate, or a country pirate, that those pirates would be shut down within two days. FCC has issues with 87.7, but illegal operations on 87.9, 90.1, 90.5, 92.7, 94.3, 95.1, 95.9, 96.5, 96.7, 97.5, 99.9, 102.3, 103.9, 104.7, 106.3, 107.1, and 107.9 are perfectly fine. WTH FCC?!

Dude learn about what the FCC is doing. They are focused on TV and bandwidth, not radio right now

There's the dance pirate in Trenton that has been on for years. The FCC doesn't care about pirates at all, no matter the format.

And to this date, there still is no deadline for shutting down analog LPTV broadcasts.

The Ny area is lucky from what I have seen most pirates get shut down within a year or so.
Oh yeah? What about all the pirates in Newark and Brooklyn that have a following because they have been on for years? At least 20 pirates have been on for 5+ years.

Yea,that's why I said the NY area (Tri-State area) is lucky.
"Lucky" to me would mean that pirates in the NY area are shut down within a year.

I've noticed pirates in the Boston area also on for years, and even a few dance pirates in Minnesota have been on for years.

It's funny how a LEGAL station is claiming that the FCC will shut them down, but PIRATE stations don't get shut down.

The FCC has no intention of shutting down WNYZ.

They do however expect the station to adhere to updated technical regulations. These regulations will, at some point*, require this TV station to operate in digital mode. They've already imposed this requirement on full-power TV stations, with hundreds converting their analog signals to digital last June.

WNYZ found a loophole in the regulations and made creative use of it. They knew at the time that digital conversion would be required someday.

They'll be allowed to continue operation, as the TV station they are, for as long as they care to renew their license and comply with the regulations. (I see no sign they have any interest in violating the regulations)

* Rumor has it the FCC will announce a deadline this spring. My gut feeling is the deadline will be *next* spring - that WNYZ has about 15 months to live as a radio station before it must find a way to make it as the TV station it is.
