Thought you meant they were dropping the format altogether, but you meant just the "X" brand.
If Houston is any indication, history says that Cox will slowly but surely morph 106-7 into what K-Zep was prior to the flip. That's what's basically happened here, with the Eagle dropping the "Classic Hits" imagining for "Houston's only classic rock station", which is what The Arrow used prior to the flip, and the musical presentation has mostly mirrored what The Arrow was spinning during its run with the format.
Perhaps KTKX becomes "106-7 The Eagle"? Seems to be pretty standard fare for Cox classic rockers to be named The Eagle.
I'll play along with the idea for KISS. Maybe Cox is dropping the association of the X brand on 106-7 so they can introduce it to the market again, down the road, on KISS as an alternative station named "X 99-5". Sure doesn't seem likely both 99-5 & 106-7 will remain status quo given the departure of the main competition of K-Zep from a full powered signal.
