The song is receiving some support from Clear Channel, but mainly on the more adult-friendly CHR's. I've heard it on Channel 96.1 in Charlotte.
I don't see many similarities to Adele in this one either, unless the fact that it's more adult/alternative sounding. I can see her songs doing better on CHR than this one, but we'll see...Foster The People had big success...

With the help from the success of Adele's sound, Gotye shouldn't have much of a problem coming in with their own "different" chr sound. Adele's sound should open minds enough to the point where more adult / soft alternative style singing quality based music should work on chr.
Anyone notice how it seems like only soft alternative is crossing into top 40? I have yet to hear a full blown alternative rock type song make it. I believe Sick Puppies was the last one I heard with a harder sound. I'd consider Hot Chelle Rae to be "soft" and rather poppish as well.

You need to take into consideration that some of those stations spinning it may not be spinning the original version of the song either. There are tons of remixes of this song. We're playing both the original and a remix in GR.
I'm also not yet 100% sure it's necessarily going to explode and go Top 5 (I don't think stations know that yet either) - the bullet's not huge, but the adds date is this Tuesday I think so this is all pre-add airplay

I don't think it's Adele or Foster the people paving the way...it's Itunes...it's already a huge hit whne looking at Itunes
I don't see this one exploding. This is just my opinion, but its not that great of a song. There are far more worthy alternative tracks that should get their due at CHR.
Or as my friend posted on Facebook, "why is KROQ so suddenly into 80s Peter Gabriel?" This is a derivative pile of crap, and it doesn't even have the 'fun' vibe of a song like "Pumped Up Kicks" that mananged to sound poppy despite its lyrics.

Hot 97.5 KMVA is playing the Bass Remix of it right now as I type! This is a local Phoenix station that flipped to Hot AC after dropping the Movin format, then slowly shifted to top 40 then rhythmic and has now become an all new music station that actually specializes in "Hits, Now." In other words, they only play the hottest and newest hits. None of those hip hop recurrents from the mid 00's and stuff.
Anyway, I remember mentioning that it was likely the song would be remixed for hit radio. I'm very glad that stations may not use the type of remixes I imagined they would use. This bass remix was very well done and doesn't take or add too much to the original version and composition of the song.

Can someone explain the wide appeal of Addelle? I do agree that she works well on AC and somewhat on Hot AC, but I don't remember the songs being played before Someone Like You as this was one day during the summer when I was actually in the right mood for KHKS. Of course they were playing upbeat music like usual, then right into Addelle - Someone Like You, major tune out.

A few years back, you couldn't escape hearing MGMT on the radio in LA. It was especially burned out on KYSR and KROQ obviously, but also received play at KIIS and KPWR. Alternative radio does well with young Latinos in LA, so there is a certain amount of crossover from the big alternative hits that get played like crazy on KYSR and KROQ eventually ending up at least getting thrown into the mix on KPWR.
I expect to hear more Gotye in the next few weeks. KBIG has also been all over "Somebody that I Used to Know"- and I expect its because not only is it right for the Hot AC format, but they're capitalizing on its popularity at other stations in the market, and chasing after women 25-54.
