It has begun

WMYI-102.5 is doing it already and it's not even Thanksgiving yet. I was tuning in for the "70's weekend". Oh well, maybe I'll scratch fleas til January.

At least we should only have 1 station doing it in Greensboro this year, since the demise of Oldies 93. Can't understand how it keeps boosting their ratings year after year, but apparently it does! And, a lot of the advertisers like being on at that time, so don't think it will be going away anytime soon.

Just shows you how stupid it is to buy advertising based on Fall ratings! No way the station that goes all Christmas has the same audience in February as it did in November and December. Ad agencies are just plain dumb to fall for that crap!

I know... Sunny 93.9 in Raleigh has also started its all-Christmas format...
Which reminds me: Are there any rumors flying around about these two stations spinning the format wheel soon like there are here in Raleigh with Sunny?

I do like the traditional performances of traditional songs.

I wish it could be just those performances. I could put my radio on one station and leave it.

I used to be of the "bah-humbug" mindset with regard to radio stations adopting All Christmas Music formats. However, as people like the ACLU continuously step up their efforts to ban Christmas in America and relentlessly demonize and persecute those who disagree with them, I am grateful for stations (especially secular stations) who aren't ashamed to play Christmas music and even use imaging/liners which say "Merry Christmas".

One could argue that they're doing this just because of the revenue it generates. Maybe so. But that is a good argument AGAINST the philosophies of companies who seem to think that saying "Merry Christmas" is somehow disrespectful. I'm glad to know that a large enough portion of the buying power still rests in the hands of those who embrace Christmas and believe it should be celebrated. If K and Lite are playing Christmas music just for the money, I think that's a good indication that the ACLU and their disciples are wrong...which they ARE!

Keep the Christmas tunes comin', K and Lite! I love 'em.

How appropriate, they'll be playing Christmas music while they call folks into the corner office to tell them they're being downsized

don you love the sounds of the season... Holiday music on Lite 102.9 is way better than the K 104.7!(Program wise and music selection )!! Just wanted you to know that!

I was in a doctor's office in Charlotte today and the entire staff was complaining about the Christmas music on WKQC/WLYT. One nurse said the staff had come to dread the five weeks of Christmas music every year which of course is broadcast throughout the facility. She also said they got continuous complaints from patients.

I don't blame them! The there are some who really love it which I don't understand. Both stations get a tremendous ratings boost by ding this and the advertisers love it. Somehow it puts people in the mood to shop I guess. In time it will probably stop working and then both stations will no longer do it.

I work weekends at "K" and it makes my job harder. I won't bore you with the details.

Agreed Mike. I always hear complaints from friends and from parents at my kid's school since they know who I am...I think they are under the impression that the jocks really enjoy playing Xmas music. These people that work at businesses need to understand that they may have the music in their office and in their ears from 9-5, but we are backselling the same 300 songs for our entire shifts 24/7 and trying to sound happy about it. One thing is for sure...this ratings book is ALWAYS our highest. I have no idea why or how, but for some reason it works....which is why it happens year after year....unfortunately. We did do something new this year though...we have our regular format playing on k1047.com so at least there is somewhat of a break. I would be happier if we at least added some more songs. Problem is, there are no "new" holiday songs....once in awhile a new one comes out like "Christmas Shoes", but other than that...just same songs from 30, 40 and 50 years ago..some by original artists and some by more modern ones...either way it makes us play the same title several times a shift. It is nerve racking to say the least.
