It is nice we have two stations going all christmas but...

Cant one of them be a little different and play jethro tull god rest ye or five for fighting silent night or relient k the 12 days of christmas or the bird and the bee 12 days of christmas or carol of the bells etc etc...

My point being i love the standards we hear year after year but it would be nice to mix in a few non standards. Yes i know they dont test well but still...

Guess i will rely on 91.9 wfpk to play the different christmas tuneage!!!

Mix 94.5 in Lexington used to have a GREAT variety of Christmas music back in the early 2000's. They even played Jethro Tull's "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and "We Five Kings" as u stated you enjoy hearing, as do I. But now it's all the same 30 songs over and over again, on every station it seems. Kinda depressing :(

The days of music testing and focus groups for Christmas music have arrived. Looks like were stuck with Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer for the foreseeable future.

We may not be hearing a whole lot of Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer or Jingle Bells by the Singing Dogs.
Both of these songs test super high when it comes to negatives

I will say though that quicksie 98.3 in elizabethtown does go outside the box and will play the coldplay 2000 miles and have yourself a merry little christmas and collective soul blue christmas.

They play the standards plus outside the box.

I will say this at least louisville on christmas day all the stations play alot of christmas music. But when i was in los angeles on christmas day aside from the two stations that play all christmas music the other stations played hardly any christmas music.

And it doesnt seem to matter what market you are in for the most part the same 31 songs by the same artists over and over and over!!!

40 years ago, virtually every music station played Christmas music for a week or two before Christmas with a twist that's not evident today : Some of them (the beautiful music stations were most likely) kept the Christmas music playing to some degree through New Years Day!

We would run a couple per hour for about 2 weeks before Christmas. On Christmas Eve day, it was wall-to-wall holiday cheer from noon until midnight on Christmas day. There were 15 to 30 minute segments sponsored by local businesses who would pay for a live read greeting card, basically, and it all ended with..." and now 30 minutes of your Christmas favorites presented by the good folks at..."
I pulled many of those lonely shifts, but when I think about it, it was a good time to reflect on what the Christmas holiday was really all about.

Any station that plays Grandma is off my list even when they DO switch back to the 'normal' format.

they say the ratings are huge for the stations that go all christmas music...is their a christmas music book with arbitron now..??..what are the demos of these people that listen to christmas music for 6 weeks...mostly soccer moms..??..lol..

WOVO 106.3 went to their "North Pole radio" formant after thanksgiving. I wonder if WOVO's new 50kw signal is causing WCDA 106.3 any problems up toward Lexingtonland.

Not at all. Besides, you have to remember WKYU at 88.9 is pumping 100kw with WEKU also at 88.9 ready to upgrade to 100kw and they co-exist.

I get there's no conflict on 106.3. But won't WEKU have to go to a directional antenna to upgrade?

It looks like the CP is no longer active but if IIRC it was non-directional. It is a pretty good distance between Clays Ferry and Bowling Green.

Sometimes WEKU starts to give WKYU some trouble around Horse Cave and The East Side of Glasgow. At nighttime you can defiantly tell somethings under WKYU on those areas, I could only imagine how much worse it could get at 100kw in those areas. WKYU is on Mars Hill in Northwestern Warren County -Side mounted on the WKGB's tower this would be pushing 50miles from Horse Cave and Eastern areas of Glasgow. I would say that many of those listeners in those areas listen to WDCL 89.7 at times like that. WDCL is Licensed to Somerset KY, But it's tower is in Adair County and it comes in well in those areas.

Not that I know of...

I always figured WCDA 106.3 would try to bump up it's power to compete with 104.5 but it's a little too late now.

WCDA can't upgrade on 106.3 however it does have a nice perch atop the Financial Center.

When they first signed on as CD106.3 from atop the Financial Center they had a call from Clay City. So it does get out.

Guess they changed their name because nobody really buys CDs... Good thing they didn't pick up mp3-106.3 or i106.3 ;)
