Meruelo Media Rhythmic CHR “Power 106” 105.9 KPWR Los Angeles has found its next morning host as rapper/comedian/actor/television host Nick Cannon will join the station.
But as the station promotes an announcement on Friday at 12pm to introduce Cannon, iHeartMedia’s “Real 92.3” KRRL decided to break one of the worst kept secrets in Los Angeles radio this morning. Big Boy, who left KPWR acrimoniously in 2016 to move to KRRL, told his listeners this morning that Cannon will be the new host at KPWR.
Cannon previously hosted mornings at CBS Radio’s “92.3 Now” WNOW-FM New York from 2010-2012. At the time his exit was attributed to the medical issues he had been dealing with including kidney failure, pulmonary embolism, and lupus. He also hosted a weekend countdown show for CBS. Cannon is best known as the host of MTV’s Wild ‘N Out, FOX’s The Masked Singer, and previously hosting NBC’s America’s Got Talent.
Melissa Rios joins KPWR from mornings at SBS Spanish CHR “Mega 96.3” KXOL. Rios joined KXOL in 2013 and also served as a host for SBS’ “Mega TV” network.
Teddy Mora joins the morning show from weekends where he most recently had been hosting on Saturday nights. Mora began his career as an intern at KPWR and has also worked at “Power 98.3” KKFR Phoenix.
The team will be rounded out by former “Real 92.3” KRRL Music Director DJ Carisma. Carisma, who also serves as artist relations lead and Hip-Hop/R&B curator for TuneIn.com, began her career as a mixer at KPWR.
