It is the 25th,time for some X-Mas music talk!

When will the flips occur this year?before or after Thanksgiving?
Will any new station jump in the game or will WODS and WMJX slug it out again?

WODS will def. do it, perhaps just after Veteran's Day. Why wait till Thanksgiving? They will jump the
gun early as they always do. Not everyone likes it but their ratings/billings do well with it.
And WMJX is indeed the other station most likely

I thought Magic wasn't doing it anymore? They did it in 2005 against WODS, but unlike Oldies they seemed to do a "deeper" Christmas format with more covers and fewer of the "hits" like Mariah Carey and Band Aid that WODS played into the ground. Ratings didn't really see a boost, so last year they seemed to just mix occasional tunes into the format.

Stations heard in Greater Boston that did go Christmas last year were 103.3 WODS, 96.1 WSRS, 93.3 WSNE, 99.1 WPLM for December 13th-25th, and I seem to recall that 105.1 WWLI and 95.7 WZID also did as well.

WPLM actually switched earlier last year.....Shortly after Thanksgiving.

What I am hoping for is after the holidays, They flip to something else.

I stand corrected; I thought WMJX did it just before the holidays. Or maybe they were one of
those stations (like Coast 93.3?) that was doing it weekends only for awhile.

ODS I see going all Christmas on November 9th,playing the same 103 Christmas songs over and over and over and over.

Dec 26th they should start playing more 80s tunes ala CBS-FM in New York but probably won't.

MJX will stick with just 36 hours (6pm Christmas eve and all day Christmas)

I wish this all-Christmas music format would just stop!!

Anyway, I do think that WODS will probably be the first to do it. Probably the week before Thanksgiving, which is at its earliest this year, the 22nd. In 2005, WMJX flipped to all-Christmas on the day after Thanksgiving. From what I understand, they don't like the concept of playing Christmas music BEFORE Thanksgiving. I don't understand why they made Thanksgiving part of the Christmas season. I remember the days when it used to just be a holiday by itself. However, last year, they never went all-Christmas until Christmas Eve, and then Christmas Day. And I don't even think it used to be 36 hours. I think they did it from 6pm Christmas Eve until 6pm Christmas night. Even Lite Rock 105 stopped playing Christmas at 6pm on Christmas night, and they DID go all-Christmas. But who knows what will happen this year?

Last year, Magic (WMJX) only went all-Christmas online. I believe Oldies went all-Christmas earlier than 2005 but I cant recall the exact date but I suppose I/we/someone could check all the old posts from last year. Anyone wanna volunteer?? ;D

I'm going with Friday, November 16th as the day (530am with Uncle Dale) Oldies 103.3 goes all-Christmas until December 26th. Friday November 16th is also the day I will stop listening to Oldies 103.3 until December 26th. ::)

Speaking of Uncle Dale, he's been out since Tuesday. Anybody wanna start any rumors?? ;D

Here's what I recall for Boston itself (excluding PLM which has always done Christmas, although less so in previous years):

2004: 103.3 WODS and 93.7 WQSX (which, as everyone remembers, was a complete disaster for Star)
2005: 103.3 WODS and 106.7 WMJX
2006: 103.3 WODS
2007: ?? (but certainly 103.3 WODS)

you're off by a year. 103.3 and 93.7 went all-christmas in '03. wods was all alone on christmas in '04.

Somehow I'm assuming that WODS will make the flip this week. I know the last few years they've done it, they made the switch during the morning show at around 8:30, and they usually bring Santa Claus into the studio to help out with the launch.

That date makes sense to me. It's on a Thursday, the most important day of the week for advertisers, and I don't think the 15th isn't so much before Thanksgiving that it would be seen as obnoxious.

WODS's website says "Boston's Holiday Music Station" at the very bottom of it's front page (but there's nothing else Christmasy/holiday related there). I'm still going with this Friday the 16th at 530am as the Christmas music flip day.

WODS will flip the switch Monday November 12, 2007 at 6 AM.

Happy holidays everyone. Did you catch all of the holiday shopping traffic in Wrentham this weekend?
And a lot of the other malls were very busy as well.

Here we go.

Yup, WODS flipped this morning. Tuned in the kitchen radio at 620am and heard "Chestnuts Roasting Over An Open Fire". I immediately virtually kicked WODS's chestnuts and said goodbye until Dec 26th.

Just had to flip my bedroom radio after breakfast following "Feed the World".

:(

Ohhhhhhhhhh noooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!

WROR apparently flipped just a few moments ago as well at 710am (705am according to their website). Oh my God!! They played "Happy Christmas" and since then it's been talk (sports report, listener calls, etc) so I'm waiting for the next song. But they did play a Loren and Wally Christmas rhyme saying they were going all-Christmas. This CAN'T be happening! :'(

Yup, they are saying "Loren and Wally and Boston's Favorite Christmas Songs". And for the 2nd time this morning (first time on WODS), I'm hearing "Chestnuts Roasting Over an Open Fire". I'm gonna throw up.

Looks like it's WXLO/Worcester, Oldies 98-9 (WORC)/Worcester, or something else for the next 6 weeks.
