It Just Sounds Annoying!

Enough already with those constant reminders that KT'R is on FM and it just sounds better! It's like TMISU just discovered FM's audio advantage over AM and are soiling their britches to get the word out. Nurse Jeff and I find these promos more annoying than those Ray Vinson mortgage commercials!

The part that gets me is that they seem to have almost entirely removed the call letters!

News Talk FM News 92.3 FM Talk news... whatever...

With the exception of stations that have been running the same format and using their callsign as "branding" for 20 years or more (KOY, KTAR, KDKB, KOOL, KSLX, & KNIX locally), call letters are pretty much irrelevant to most folks other than the FCC.

In my opinion, what TMISU should have done was to move KTAR (without the -FM suffix, which I think should be eliminated anyway) to 92.3 and move the KMVP call letters to 620. They would have had to come up with something else for 860, but so what? It's not like there's any actual programming on 860 now.

EXACTLY...it's what the Nurse and I said a year ago: KT'R calls go solo on FM and different calls on Sports Parking Lot 6~twenty. AM...it just sounds worser!

As a part of the agreement to sell KMVP, Bonneville keeps the call letters. It's supposed to be final pretty soon, so I guess we'll know then.

I gotta admit.....that new catch phrase actually does sound annoying....

I think the new slogan is a hell of a lot better than "without the static", but did they spend all of their budget on the male station voice? The female part sounds like they threw an intern in front of a mic!

I was actually starting to like the news without the static but this new phrase with saying FM News Talk is just too much words and dosent flow right. I do though like the programming alot better. I do like the option of having a station doing news blocks in am and pm drive.

I've been wondering about the need to do traffic updates during Phil Hendrie, but earlier tonight at least I found out that the staff at 90 2 3 doesn't care about them either. Overheard at 10:32 PM after a commercial break:

** Traffic Update Music Begins ** ... (music plays for 5 seconds)... "I guess this is traffic time, I don't know what happened to news." Joe Frazier proceeds into the uneventful nighttime traffic update, and after reporting on two or three freeways cuts loose a hearty, phlegmy cough with a brief " 'scuze me" before finishing the report. Then, as he stumbles over "News... er, FM news-talk ninety-two-three," the weather-update music begins, somewhere around "news-talk" and drowns out the end of the logo. The weather music proceeds to play for 15 seconds without anyone talking, then dead air for a few beats before Phil comes back on.

Man, what is the consultant budget over at KT'R?

First, Fancy Music and voice of God EVERYWHERE,

Than, a softer approach, without the static, and

Now, it just sounds better.... which I agree is annoying.

All in the 1st year.

Hey, what does the consultant say about that 1-3 or even 4 timeslot?? ;) ???

The voice of God comes with the package when you are one of TMISU. ;D

I'm waiting for the MoTab jingle and Lloyd Newell voice overs. ;)

Seriously, though, I do like the news blocks on KT'R. Too many commercials, but I like that I can tune in at the top and bottom of the hour and hear news updates. I'm not sold yet on Aunt Karlo and I'm definitely not tuning in to hear Aunt Maude. While I have nothing but respect and admiration for his long and illustrious career, now would be a good time to put a period at the end and move on.

/end of KT'R rant
