There has been some talk...predominantly on the NJ Board...about 1260 WBUD dropping their local programming and replacing it with a satellite "music for the end of your life" feed.

And while it appears that they have dropped their air personalities, I haven't seen any concrete evidence that this is going to happen...does anyone have any information? For the last couple of weeks, otto has been running things on the air. Otto-mation that is.

I am hanging on to the hope that perhaps they are just doing some house-cleaning...playlist, air personalities, staff, etc...and within a few days they will launch a brighter format with new personalites. I like the current format, but it's dry. Too much repetion, and not enough songs from the era(s). I wouldn't mind some more Rock N' Roll mixed with the current standards, but I'll take it over what will most likely replace the current format.

Back-timing is the art of beginning your last record of the hour at an "exact" time so that the record will end at the top of the hour AT news time. Back when I was doing this stuff on AM, I got pretty good at it. Example...if my second to last record ended at 1:55:15 and I had to start the last song at 1:56:32...I would talk for 47 seconds, play a 30 second spot, start the last record of the hour and then enjoy an eight minute smoke break.

IMHO, the "fade up" is cheating. "The fade up" is starting an instrumental at a "dead roll" or "off of the air," and then when the second to last song ends, you quickly "fade up" the instrumental to meet the news break at the top of the hour. That is crap in my opinion, anyone on the air should know how to do it properly.

The reason I rambled was because there are days that WBUD actually leaves the "fade up" instrumental pot open, and you actually hear two songs playing simultaneously for the last two minutes of the hour. The first time I heard it I thought the $6.00 an hour kid at the board was probably too stoned to notice, but they obviously don't have anyone running the board, because it isn't unusual to hear the entire version of "Theme From A Summer Place" over Sam Cooke at the end of the hour. It's a shame.

Yes, judging by past rumors and the current state of otto running things, the station will probably succomb to some sort of watered-down satellite programming, but a little wishing thinking on my part for WBUD to stay local couldn't hurt I suppose.
