It looks like Sirius XM will kill off several channels....

....So don't be surprised if they include some of the dance offerings. This is expected to take place November 12 (2008) and already they're running promos leading up to pending changes. Stay tuned.

Has anyone heard any promos on the dance channels yet? I haven't.

I bet BOOMBOX,MOVE,SYSTEM are toast

I hope their not stupid to kill BPM for The Beat... The beat plays waaaay too much old music. Stuff past its prime.. As I'm typing they are playing DIE ANOTHER DAY by Madonna... Give me a break! BPM plays stuff you won't hear on The Beat. The Beat should've died a long time ago.

the beat:
die another day / that brings me back , to when
i was in phx, and tuned into Energy-AZ! (for the first time).

I personally, enjoy the older stuff...(2002 or so) wasnt a great
time for dance, but songs from the era, to me i enjoy
hearing on a some what regular basis... ( not that i tune
into my dish-tv/sirius audio feed ) all that much....but, when
i do, i pause "LIVE TV" and fast forward over songs that I'm not
interested in; usually, they are the more recent songs...

*I WISH*
some one, would dedicate all 90s EURO, either as a show, or
a channel..

But they play it Everyday. The Same ones... Thats whats wrong with this channel.

From what I'm hearing "through the grapevine", BPM will remain.

Even though I wasn't crazy about "The Beat", there could have been a place for this station to remain....for those just getting into dance music or the "casual" fan that may find what "BPM" does as "hardcore".

But when you get right to it, there are no real "winners" when it comes to a "merger"

I have XM and BPM is a good dance hit channel I was wonder what will happen to the DJ's @ The Beat on Sirius will they join BPM? Also I haven't hearing Skyy much on his afternoon shift on BPM.

I dont subscribe to Xm or Sirius anymore.. They greatly ticked me off when they killed The Move-Best House music Channel ever...... Then they kill A state of Trance, and then scrap The System all together, and that did it for me. It was bad enough when BPM fired ALAN FREED a good Allie of mine, and he was let go for no reason, plsu Skyy is kinda struck on himself and not a friendly and informative guy like Alan was. You can Email Skyy a question, Comment or Song ID and he just ignores you for eternity, and when Freed was at BPM, always within 24 hrs he would answer my emails and answer honestly all my questions, even letting me know he was getting close to getting canned on BPM before it was made public, and that he had lost his motivation and was starting to not care anymore.... I can relate to that feeling, but luckily for me, ive got now at least until the next few books before worrying about job loss, and I think out new Energetic Night guy will really pull in our after 6 PM listeners, and we may start airing what was formerly Romeos Playhouse at night.. I should ask this on the CHR board, but does anyone here know what they new name and host is.

mw/clubber:

hey it appears that the Listen Online (which is only $8/month),
and no im not reppin' xm - but listen online, at least for my
full-pd.subscription, still has the system/the move....
hmmm?
wonder if they are still on the 'tv' / direct Tv line up

Thanks Chrles.. I hope we get it soon.. Our sister station EAZY in Lafayette has carried it for years, even back when it was called ALL Night Cafe with Mathew Reid.... Its pretty much like Open House Party for weeknights,,, lots of listener interaction, and remixes and entertainment. Its better than a jockless jukebox at night.

From what I saw over at the XM and Sirius message boards, here the keepers and goners on the XM side so far:

Staying:
Area
BPM
SIRIUS XM Chill

Goners:
The Move (Eliminated)
The System (will remain on XMRO)
Chrome (Eliminated)
XM Chill (Merged with Sirius XM Chill)

As for The Beat, Strobe and Boombox they're haven't made a decision but there is supposed to be another wave of mergers/eliminations coming down the pipeline within the next several weeks.

It was a shame when Alan Freed was dropped from BPM. Dance radio in America NEVER sounded better than when he was running that station, with the Euro imports, etc. It was nothing short of amazing.

The Sirius list hasn't been leaked yet.. I'm sure they aren't keeping Beat and Boombox since they are going the way of merging similiar formats on both services. In fact a USA today ad list "get your Sirius & XM" with the Electronic & Dance (Sirius' way ) listing BPM and Sirius XM Chill..

AMEN to that Saladressing! During the late 90's, Alan ran an excellent operation with "Beat Radio".

Good guy too!

Would you happen to have the BPM charts from the time Alan Freed ran BPM or a song listing? I would love to know what "Euro Imports" you're talking about.

Thanks. ;D

SiriusXM Chill : Word is this channel sucks! They went with the Sirius version.. Bad move

Believe it or not, I am actually STUNNED that none of the classic dance stations ("The Strobe" or "Chrome") made it over to the merge!

As much as I am a current based dance music fan, there still has to be some sort of "heritage". Maybe the suits feel that they could always put disco on the 70's channel and some dance on the 80's channel. Though, IMHO there STILL should be some sort of classic dance channel with the 70's disco up to early 90's dance. "The Strobe" did a pretty good job with that.

Anyway, we ARE going to do a letter writing campaign regarding the classic dance offerings. More information will be posted at the coalition MySpace later on.......
