It looks like the DTV deadline might be moved up....

Oh, goody. Even less time I have to deal with all the crap on broadcast television; looks like McCain might make it less than 450 days from now ...<P ID="signature">______________

And to think he wants to pursue the proposal date issue, especially in a election year...if they still have a job by November 2006.

My hope is that he doesn't prevail -- a year from now is just too soon for the transition to happen. In any event, I think that the odds are that he won't, since it seems that he is in a minority on this point.

Absolutely. With all the problems and legislative FUBARs on the table now and he wants to screw around with DTV. These people just don't get it.

Excuse my cynicism, but I can't imagine McCain is serious about his bill. He knows that such a quick conversion will never be approved, but at least he gets to say he was trying to help the first responders when he runs for president in 2008.

Punish the people who were smart enough to plan ahead for the conversion, and help the people who have no clue? Well, that's politics for you.

[sarcasm]Also note that this is a great way to help get the conversion started. Buy a DTV now and pay the full price. Wait till the last minute and have the government pay it for you. I bet this is really going to make people want a DTV now.[/sarcasm]
