It Only Took ABC ONE Episode

N

network

Guest
I am surprised it didn't get mentioned here. But then again, nobody watched it to notice it was yanked after ONE episode.

The Heather Graham comedy "Emily's Reasons Why Not?" got yanked by ABC after only one airing (its' season premiere Jan 9th) and has shut down production after 6 episodes (yep, that's the death sign right there!). The return of "Jake In Progress" starring John Stamos also was yanked, although ABC is holding out about bringing it back.

Sometime.

The ABC programming exec didn't talk too positively about the show overall. That was one reason (in addition to crappy ratings) the show got yanked. Another was that ABC pretty much admitted they knew the show wouldn't stand a chance when "24" returned the following week opposite "Emily's Reason's Why Not?"

Even the new season of "The Bachelor" is struggling (not surprised there, personally).

Meanwhile, CBS' Monday night line-up has seen an increase in ratings since Monday Night Football ended its' season.

ABC: Anything But Comedies.

One airing and you're done.

On top of that ABC do us all a favor, ELIMINATE ALL OF YOUR CURRENT SITCOMS!

What was funny is that

The author of the book that was based the show lives in Nashville

on top of that the doctor from the new Bachelor is a doctor from Vanderbilt

And the ABC affiliate here in Nashville, WKRN Channel 2, is in third place

(In terms of local programming that is WTVF is #1 and WSMV is #2)

I guess ABC was trying to reach out to help its affilates and I guess

you can say it kinda backfire.

That record belongs to the 1969 ABC "series" called "Turn-On." Affiliates that had cleared the program started pulling it off the air while the first episode aired. It was canceled before the first episode ended.

Re: This has got to be a record

Another one-day wonder: "Brothers and Sisters," a CBS ripoff of "Animal House."

And if Turn-On is the all-time champ, the runnerup has to be "You're In the Picture," a prime-time game show hosted by Jackie Gleason (!). Four celebs put their heads through holes in a picture (like you might see at a carnival) and had to guess what the picture was. The next week's show was 30 minutes of Jackie on a bare stage, apologizing for the previous week's show.

(Of course, Fox holds the real record with multiple instances of announcing shows in the spring that never showed up in the fall, or any other time).

Actually, it was "Co-ED Fever" that lasted for one episode on CBS. All three networks in early 1979 aired a rip-off version of "Animal House", "Co-ed Fever" on CBS, which lasted for one show, "Brothers and Sisters" on NBC, Which lasted for about six weeks, and "Delta House" on ABC, which also only lasted about six weeks. At least "Delta House" had a few casts that had appearred in "Animal House", although only the minor characters.

Crumbs

Has anyone watched the new Jane Curtin & Fred Savage show "Crumbs" Thursdays @ 9:30 EST? It is the only redeemable sitcom on ABC. Fresh storyline, great writing, and tons of laughs from the whole cast.

My apologies - then again, that shows how memorable any of them were :)

Re: This has got to be a record

ABC a few seasons ago canceled a sitcom called "Wednesdays, 9:30 (8:30 Central)" after one week on the air. I'm sure no guesses will be needed for it's original timeslot...<P ID="signature">______________

Furthermore, it was cancelled following its special "preview" episode on a Sunday -- it never made it to Monday nights.
