IT position question...

Who would I need to contact at KTVT to talk about the IT position there? What are the qualifications for working in IT at a TV station? Thanks.

You need to be the total/complete/ultra computer geek, and be willing to be on call at all hours. Virutally all equipment at television stations is PC based nowadays. You're going to run across all kinds of stuff the general computer using public has never heard of.

I'm beginning to think that the IT guys are even more important than the engineering department--there's not a lot of separation between the two any more.

I found a lot of TV stations that I've worked for (I do consulting) outsource these postions a lot. They have one MAIN position and he hires outside help for periods of time only. This saves the station in benefits and hiring costs.

So you might want to look at setting up a part time business and offering your services as a "consultant." This will get your foot in the door. And ironically you can get more per hour as the company won't pay benefits. However you must distribute that "more money" over your own insurance costs etc.<P ID="signature">______________
