It Really Is The End of LARadio.com

Today Don Barrett said to his readers,

"This is the end of a 15 year journey. I get to do something most radio people aren’t able to do when their radio station run ends – say goodbye."

After years of devoting his days reporting on the ends and outs, and odds and ends of the number two market, it has come to this.

Devils advocate: How many pay websites actually work with so much free information available on the web?*

Maybe in better times, but now now.

In his final email he said such things.

The free sites, including this one, make their revenue from advertising. One local site that seems to succeed using the advertising model is www.dcrtv.com Like the LA site, it's a one man operation. Allbeit, his site is loaded with advertising. Not a pretty site. But it serves its purpose and keeps the conversation going in a Top 10 market.

Admittingly I have said some harsh things about LARadio in the past however I do have to say that I am sad to see it go. Don is a classy guy and much of my criticism was not directed at him personally but what I felt was the lack of correctly marketing the site. However all of that is water under the bridge since it has officially ended.

I do wish him the best of luck and really hope he decides to reinvent the site down the line and everyone can still maintain that lifeline with him.

Thank you Don. Stay well and best to you and your wonderful family.

Another successful site is the Chicagolandradioandmedia.com. They so a fine job, it's popular and busy with lots of content.
