It seems that Supertalk is getting an satillite upgrade

TeleSouth Communications Launches New Satellite Platform. Attention radio station tech wizards: Clear Channel Satellite a division of CC Media Holdings, Inc., announces the deployment of the first XtremeSat Media satellite broadcast distribution platform for TeleSouth Communications Inc. TeleSouth purchased the system to deliver 10 high quality audio channels to its affiliates and company owned radio stations from its uplink located in Jackson, Mississippi. TeleSouth has also entered into a multi-year agreement with Clear Channel Satellite to provide satellite capacity for the distribution of its programming, and with the new technology, they were able to significantly reduce their occupied satellite bandwidth and monthly recurring costs. “Recent technology advancements have made it much less expensive to operate your own multi-channel satellite network,” remarks Mike Hagans, president, Clear Channel Satellite. “The new uplink and receiver platform allows syndication providers who have their own uplinks to replace their aging and inefficient receivers and head-end gear with a system that is much more bandwidth efficient. The new system has dramatically reduced monthly recurring costs, while providing advanced features like AAC audio, spot insertion, and an intelligent fallback feature that automatically uses an alternate carrier, streaming audio or receiver-stored content when needed.”

Better for Supertalk to get those talk shows around the state

I sure hope it sounds better. If there was anything worth listening to I surely couldn't stand to listen for long.

We have it, and indeed the quality is much better...plus they have enough channels to assign permanent ones to sources...no patching and hopeing...and quick trips to the studio when somebody "forgets" to active a source. Better. JBI

One of the reasons I always listened to WJNT was the fact that Supertalk sounded terrible. I can't stand the low bitrate audio. When Supertalk first came on the air, it sounded like they were using a dial-up modem or a cell phone. It was unlistenable. It has gotten better, but it is a sad state of affairs when your FM station sounds worse than any AM station on the dial. I've noticed that some of the music stations are now airing swishy low quality as well. Satelite sounds bad, some Itunes files sound bad, even some television shows have digital artifacts. It seems like you just can't get away from this gurgly audio these days.
