It was 20 years ago today

Sgt Pepper taught the...no, wrong song. Carolyn Fox taught the boys to play.

4/1/86 Carolyn announced that the Providence Labor Action Relations Board Committee closed the city for the day & gave a phone number to call for more information. The number was that of WPRO. WPRO received hundreds of calls, as did the police & City Hall.

As a post script, sometime in the mid 70s WPRO ran a War Of The Worlds dramatization. I don't recall if it was the original or a locally produced one, but yes, only in RI as recently as 30 or so years ago this caused major grief among listeners who actually believed the state was under intergalactic attack.

Carolyn ruled. The tripods are here. BRU has the best sense of humor in the market. Your flys are all unzipped.

WPRO heard from the FCC about the War Of The Worlds thing. I don't remember if it was a fine or just a slap on the wrist. As far as Carolyn Fox,WPRO later hired her.
