All Access quotes Sirius Satellite Radio's Howard 100 channel: Howard Stern is suspended for 1 day, because of too many Sirius mentions on K-Rock. A best of show will air on Tuesday, Nov 8

I'm almost surprised it took this long....

...Like Howard REALLY cares!...He most likely shruged his sholders over it.
The ultimate question is...how SHOULD Stern be punished?...or was that actually good enough punishment?
______________

A couple things people need to know about this;

1)Stern had reportedly planned to take the day off tomorrow anyway. and had a
"best of" show pre-selected already
2)This is just still more publicity for his upcoming satellite project

It's no punishment for Stern at all. Sirius couldn't buy this at any price. And Infinity is playing right into their hands and diverting attention away from the shows they're supposedly trying to promote and build for the future.

Exactly! Bunk & Hocum!

I don't know which party is more detestable. They seem to deserve each other, even though the divorce has been finalized.

Last week, an interesting article about satellite radio was published by Inside Radio. Authored by Frank Bell, group Program Director of Keymarket radio, which once operated a number of medium market stations, including WBEN and WGR. The report exposes the hype surrounding Sirius and XM precisely for what it is: Hype!

It would be fitting if Sirius and Stern worked their way into bankruptcy together.

cant be 'sirrus'

> I believe it. There isn't an ipod, personal CDs, or a station somewhere
in the North America(that a car radio will pick up), and there are
countless internet broadcasts of some thing a listener WANTs to hear...
for free !! no cathces, no strings..just turn on a radio,
plug in the PC,etc..and it is still Free.

-Believe this also to be true. Has there been a spike in
sirrus subscriptions for Howard?(I am actually asking, I
dont know); if so, see how many people renew.

-And, when howard can drop as many f--in bombs, as he
f--in feels like, how long will it take people to realize..
this is f---in boring...

NOW, if e!onlineTV! decided to drop his show and it was picked up by HBO or Showtime..well, then things get interesting..but by him just jumpin
ship to Sirrius..and actually cutting off listeners..to only those
with a BOX to tune in what was once free doesnt seem to make much
sense. Why do people buy 'cheater' boxes to avoid paying for
the pay-per-view? because when some thing 'enjoyable' is free,
and then you are expected to pay for it, and the product stays
the same..end result: it is a tough sell.

?-Question:
Will e!online.TV still carry his heavily bleeped/visually
digitally censored show ?? Again, if so, you get the best,
without the rest...ummm, for 'free' (you pay for all the
cable channels, not itemizing it just for viewing pleasure of
howard stern..versus buying a sirrus subscription just for stern).

Re: cant be 'sirrus'

Stern actually has a deal with PPV to air his show daily and has many other things in the "works" as special events. I am actually going to get sirius because I find his show funny as hell but its like he has his hands tied right now because of all the censoring, restrictions etc. There is a game he did three months ago that is now considered "indecent". Well not indecent by my standards. I will also check out Corolla when he takes over for stern in my market. The same thing happened when tv cable first started. Everyone said hell I am not going to pay for something I can get for free. Now look at the cable and satellite tv industry.

Re: cant be 'sirrus'

Stern is a businessman. Will he be successful right away? Hard to predict on a wholesale business but he'll definitely create buzz. AM/FM radio has too many restrictions, the music is lame and formulaic at best, and we've become an on-demand culture. Look at the success of TiVO and I-Pods. For me,local radio has become so bad that I download programming onto my Ipod from two online sites that I subscribe to. I either listen w/my headphones or I use a gadget that allows me to play the programs on a FM frequency on my stereo. This allows me to bypass bad programming in favor of what I want when I want it.
I tried to post a good article on satellite radio from Entertainment Weekly but it didn't work. Here's the link: http://www.ew.com/ew/report/0,6115,1117175_4_0_,00.html

And here's the citation in case the link only works for subscribers: "Lost in Transmission", Entertainment Weekly, Oct. 21 2005, Issue 846, p38-46, 5p.

I can't believe I'm sitting here in Buffalo. The only town where you can have a good time without enjoying yourself.

There has been a spike; not as much as had been expected, but people may in fact be waiting for the last minute. The value of Sirius stock, however, has risen...er...seriously and is expected to go even higher once Stern gets going.

Thanks for this thread; I was wondering why they had a best-of show this morning. Whether or not the suspension was deserved or accomplishes anything is anybody's guess, but one thing for sure: yesterday's show (7:30-8:30) was one long Sirius commercial!

The irony is that the audiocassette format is rapidly dying out just as people realize it's a great time-shifting and on-demand medium.

I record programs off the Web onto a cassette and drop them into my car's cassette deck for long commutes, and also use a cassette Walkman on those rare days when I exercise.

No muss, no fuss, no patch cords, no wireless transmitters.

The more interesting development from a public radio perspective is the disintermediation process -- that I record the programs of interest from the producing organization, not my local station.

This is an interesting parallel to the Comcast / NBC Universal / CBS TV annoucement of on-demand TV programming availability.
