It will be a sad day when Gary Burbank is no longer on WLW

I am now finding his show one of the only places where I can listen to live radio without it being driven by politics or 'I told you so' hosts.

I think most of us won't know how much we enjoy his comedy until its gone.

sad for Duke, Rob Ervin and JT....Can you say CC purge??

"Garrish" gave us a reason to tune in to WLW..in one word...comedy(which is something the powers that be aren't appreciative of.)

What's next???..tear down the Blaw-Knox diamond because it is no longer "feasible" to use an old relic from 'ol man Crosley's days?

WAKE UP CC!!!!!!!

I'm going to really miss his program. It has been a breath of fresh air for me ever since I first discovered it around ten years ago.

Judging by some of the comments here it appears as though some people may be thinking that Burbank has been forced out. Since he's finishing out the year I'd have to believe it his decision and not CC's.

Wow..I really feel stupid. I got tired of his act years ago and quit listening.

Gary is a good man. The show, well it was what it was, and now it is what it is. Now here is the sixty-four dollar question....what's Russ gonna do with no Sports or Consequences?

He announced his retirement a couple months ago...10 years too late. Kind of like Willie Mays in a Mets uniform.

Hey, I stopped listening a few years ago too. I got tired of it too.

But things change and now I really enjoy the option of tuning in for awhile.

Gary's show is about the only one where a caller is appreciated and not trashed or used to allow the host to make his all-knowing speech.

All due respect to Gary's talent which IMO is considerable... But...

what/who WAS he before becoming "Gary Burbank"?

Obviously, he took the name and some schtick ("Garish") from Gary Owens after Owens was the announcer on Laugh-In ("from beautiful downtown Burbank").

I'm sure you've looked it up already but http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Burbank

Actually Gary Owens does some of the voice overs for his show as well.

Id give him another shot but I'm monitoring Furman's attempt to draw Lance and Doc into a feud on the sports talk scene.

Burbank has been much more entertaining since his retirement announcement. Furman has been ok though I'm really starting to like Doc now that he is realizing that callers into a talk station most of the time will be morons.

I first heard Gary Burbank on CKLW. If you've never heard him on a top 40 format, check out online airchecks of him from WAKY (I'm not aware of any on line from CKLW). The wikipedia article had one slight error; the Right Rev. Deuteronomy Skaggs predated WHAS; Gary did the rev on CKLW every morning, usually at 8:45 am (more than likely earlier as well.). He had this really strange organ music bakground for the bit then. Some other Burbank charachters he no longer does include "Thelma Hooch, the Breakfast/Dinner Pig", Bass Ackwards, Porky Chedwick (a spoof on the real Porky) and his refernences to then Detroit mayor Coleman Young as "Soulman Young".

Gary is a legend and at one time one of, if not the funniest and most creative guy on Cinci. radio. He will be missed by the people who really appreciate good radio and what that once was. You can also bet we won't hear a "Jerry Thomas type" farewell show. That was really awful.

BTW - I love the idea of the Cincinnati Radio & TV Legends site. Wish the radio end was updated with some more info on the jocks.
