It'll be great if Hot 957 could bring back "the beat"

It'd be a change if Hot 95.7 would bring back "The beat" like what KRBE did years ago. Mostly dance, with hip hop mixed in Saturday nights. With dance coming back some it might work out.?

The Beat back when it was live from The Roxy? Those were the days. I think the DJ was Mike Anthony, mainly playing some great Trance anthems 8)

Mark D was first, then Mike Anthony.

Those were the days? I hated those days. Why do you guys always think back then was better?

Because they were special!
KRBE and 93 Q had a legacy of playing real Electronic club music on Saturday nights, going back to the late 80s. Rather than jut play remixed versions of Top 40 hits, they'd actually dedicate those hours to what was happening in Houston's club scene.
Even the imaging during the live club mixes were great, and really made those broadcasts sound special.
Wen I wasn't out clubbin myself, I had the chance to listen to quite a few live broadcasts online from around the world, and the only other one that would compare to The Beat were the Deep Space Night broadcasts live on Radio Gong 96.3 in Munich

Dance has just never quite worked in the US like in Europe. Times change and tastes shift. At one point easy listening was big time, but it's not coming back.

Mark D was a much better dj. When Mike Anthony (AKA DJ Ecstacy) took over it kind of went down hill. The Beat was a feature created by KRBE. Hot couldn't revive it and call it The Beat without permission. Sure they could do a show similar to it but it would have to be called something else.

I can tell none of you have HD Radio technology. Hot's HD-2 Energy is slammin. House and trance, and from the rumors I hear, a wkd mixshow is about to start. This is by far the best HD2 freq. in the market, and possibly one of the best in the country. While some of the dance stuff that sprinkles into the mainstream, its in heavy rotation on NRG.

I do have one but I have it disabled since it cuts out a lot. I have a clean FM stereo analog but on the HD side cuts out a lot.

Agreed. Energy 95.7 HD2 is GREAT. I don't listen to any other multicast stations since Energy has hit the air.

First off, I was the first to Launch - The Beat on KRBE under my old moniker (DJ Rich). The Beat came about under Tom Poleman and Paul Cubby Bryant back in 1993 and was KRBE's first In-House Mixshow. I remember sitting in Tom's office with Cubby trying to think of name for the show. We came up with The Beat and it was recorded and produced in the studio. I had to submit my Reel 2 Reels every week. We then took The Beat LIVE to the clubs. Our first club broadcast but very brief at Shark Dance. Then we moved it to Paragon up on FM1960 where it stayed til the club changed the name to Shelter. I left the Beat in 1995 to move to New York which, was then taken over by Greg Watton for a short period before the broadcast was moved to Roxy. That was when the switch to Mark D and Mike Anthony began.

Ironically, I also was brought in to Hot 95.7 by Mark Adams as their first In-House Mixshow back in June of 2008. The Hot Mix started out as a pre-recorded mix just like The Beat did before we took it LIVE to Bikini Beach then The Roxy. So I have the distinction of starting two In-house Mixshows on two seperate stations in Houston.

As for bringing back the Beat... Personally, I'd like to leave it in the past. I enjoyed starting that show and we did some cool things like taking requests directly from the club. I remember giving out the phone line from the DJ booth and talking to listeners directly. That was a lot of fun.

However, we are in the 21st Century now. Hot plays a lot of uptempo/dance records now and if you listen to my Club broadcasts from Rich's and Roxy, I think it has a lot of the essence The Beat had when I first started it. Now, instead of calling into the DJ booth you can send me requests directly to my iPhone/Droid app keyword: RiddlerRadio which I get in real-time to my phone and can respond quickly.

As for a specialty Dance show.. well you can download my Adrenaline Podcasts from my app or on my website at www.djriddler.com

Actually Riddler, I was recording that first night and many a Saturday night until you left for SA, the show seemed to decline from there until Mark D came along in 96. The Beat Live launched from the former Sharkdance location, The Aqua Blue Bar. Still have those tapes.

Is it possible if you could put it up for listen or download? I'd like to hear that again. I have a old recording back in 98-99 time frame some where.
