It's A Miracle! Denver Gets A CHR/Pop Station

107.1 One FM is the name of the station. Go to yes.com and type in KSYY. While it is on a rimshot signal, it's pretty much 100,000 watts strong and covers the market pretty well. There's also a 20,000 (!!!) watts translator in Aurora, meaning you should be able to easily pick it up in downtown Denver.

Did I hear correctly on the Denver board that it is calling themselves "The Beat Of Denver"? It seems very straight up the middle pop though. I am seeing a few songs that most CHRs do not/did not play. Among them Wreckers "Leave The Pieces", Goo Goo Dolls "Before It's Too Late", Mary J. Blige "Just Fine" and "Work That", Lenny Kravitz "I'll Be Waiting", as well as a couple of Kirk Franklin songs.

I am liking the music, but I will say the format won't last over 2 years given:

a)the financial history of this station
b)its a rimshot (though the 20,000 watt booster in Aurora helps)
c)CHR has not a had a good history in Denver over the last 15 years.

Still, lets enjoy it while it lasts.

On another note, a new CHR station signed on the 4th of Feb. in Merrill, OR - KKKJ 105.5. I have no idea what it's going to be called though.

This is just awesome, I couldnt wait to log on and break the news, but soon realized that Chrles was up later than me last night. I have my fingers crossed for this station, I cant wait to go to Denver next month and actually have a local chr to listen to, rather than trying to DX 98.9 or 96.1,,, Both have very spotty signals around Denver, and in some areas near the mountains you cant hear either station. I wonder how well the new One Fm covers the SW Morrison area, it is usually a bad reception spot being in the Foothills of the Rockies, this area also suffers from severe front end overload because it is so close to all the 100 kw Denver sticks right off of C-470... I am hoping I can get this One Fm at my relatives house since I cant get 98.9 at all there, and 96.1 is very weak in the area. I like KKMG and KSME, but neither station serves the Denver market proper. That 20 KW translator in Aurora should help alot though... Thats an awfully powerful translator, but I guess you need that for a huge city like Denver. I wonder how high up Both sticks are. Im off to radio locator.

My Cousin Beau, says he cant pick up 107.1 in SW Denver on a Boombox, it gets squashed out by KQKS and KBPI, both towers are less than 5 miles away from his house, probably closer. He says it booms in clear on a car radio alone C-470 except for right in front of the 100kw antenna farm on the foothills. He says Dowtown, north and West have no signal problems at all.
