Its a new day at WBAL

Today is the first day at WBAL without Rush.Congratulations to the management for making this move. This move is very significant ( and goes beyond politics ).WBAL's renewed focus on what is LOCAL should bring them dividends in the ratings. Why should listeners tune into terrestrial stations when they sound likea XM channel?I hope WBAL is very successful with this move......hopefully more stationswill follow.

Um...I hope that post was suppose to be sarcastic? While I haven't been folowing the happenings in Baltimore, this one shocks me. Why anybody would pull the #1 rated talk show period off the air is mind boggling. KDKA in Pittsburgh has suffered significantly since Rush was taken away by FM news talk 104.7. I would expect something similar to happen in Baltimore. Can WTNT out of Washington reach Baltimore? I see Glenn Beck being pulled from noon-3 if it can be. Is Rush even on in DC?

Dear Ohio Radio Man,No Sarcasm here.Every radio market is different. Your haven't followed the ratings in Baltimoreas I haven't followed the ratings in Pittsburgh.I encourage you to follow this closely. You may discover that many syndicated folks may be shown the door. The Programing Paradigm is shifting.

Ohio Radio Man,Seeing that there is more than one talk station in Baltimore (three of them, actually), there would obviously be one to pick up Rush just like any second-tier station would pick up the first-tier station's retreads. If WTNT could reach Baltimore (which you'll see the same day pigs are spotted flying over the tower site) it wouldn't matter, because Rush is now on WCBM. Glenn Beck is on WTNT because the station is a dumping ground for CC shows like his and as a flank. However, the bottom line is that money talks. Rush takes 4 minutes of network inventory that a local show doesn't have to. That means more flexible breaks and many hundreds of dollars in new spot sales. Plus, they don't have to write that big check to Premiere. Ratings can be somewhat lower (not saying that they will be) and they'd still be ahead.
