WLDA "The Breeze" in Dothan has gone ALL Christmas ...probably just a bit too early. Anyway I don't really understand the thinking behind this type of format..Also often when a station jumps to all christmas at years end..they come back after New Years with a new format. Anyone know if this is just a way to BLOW up the Breeze?..also are they still running Rick and Bubba?

You've got to be kidding... you don't understand the thinking behind this format (i.e., all-Christmas)?

Okay, how about incredible sales sponsorship opportunities for one...

Getting retailers to put your station on in their places of business for another (especially if WOOF doesn't do the all-Christmas thing or waits awhile; not sure how they handle things there)...

A nice spike in both cume and time spent listening (important factors... no, the only really important factors in the Arbitron game)...

Audience goodwill - trust me, as a PD of an AC station that does this every year (we flipped on Friday the 16th at 5pm) the positive vibes you get from the listeners FAR outweigh any negative you may get from the Scrooges of the world...

It's hard to say what the results will be for The Breeze, but if I'm running the 2nd AC in a market against a heritage (and stronger) stick like WOOF-FM, I'm ready to flip to Christmas by just after Labor Day (okay, that's a bit tongue-in-cheek). It certainly won't hurt them, and it might give them some numbers to live with for a few months.

Of course, I worked for Don McCoy for 5 1/2 years at U.S. Broadcasting in Macon, and since he's the guy calling the shots, I would bet my hard-earned cash that Magic could find a way to screw it up...

Ok..I can agree with this for the second AC station in a market..It makes sense but your right some how they will F-it-up. But I would not agree to it for the heritage station in that case it's just stupid..you would already have the listeners and the revenue..so just play SOME christmas songs and move on.

Is it just me or do I sense that Headlandradio doesn't like Christmas music?! Usually, those who criticize it do so because they don't like it!

BTW, I am new to the area...I don't work for David Copperfield, Criss Angel, or any of the other magicians. In fact, I don't work for anybody right now..hence the broke nick!

Like the format or not it shows a lack of initiative to do anything local and not off the bird AND it shows that you don't have any REAL revenue being generated by the format that you are running there the rest of the time. It's just filler...get over the denial Double Polished Coal.

Stewy,

You and I have butted heads on things before... IIRC you're a Cumulus reject, who couldn't handle the pressure of not having your own way with things all the time.

In my market, there is only one other station that makes more money than the one I program. So revenue is not an issue. It's programmed completely locally; there is no "bird" running it, and it's also been sponsored for even MORE revenue...

Need to know your facts before you upchuck them on this board.

Well Christmas Music is a good idea and yes it can be a huge revenue gainer.

But believe me Tragic Broadcasting will find away to screw it up. when I had it as wild 100 I tried to tell them
Wild and KMX were going to split the numbers at night person 18 to 34 we split down the middle

Don't get me wrong there are so good people that work there. But the higher ups need to stop and smell what they are shoveling .

Hope everyone has a great Holiday

D-2, Facts are that this topic on this thread applied to my previous post will hold true. If you program an all Christmas locally for the season then yes, it can be a good revenue producer. I've never heard your work and I don't know your sales team so I cannot comment on your market, therefore I apologize for the generalization made previously. But I know this market and all the players in this Windy Thread. As for the bet you posted, not fair, you've already won!

I'am not %100 sure BUT Shady I believe that KMX After Dark was whipping you..and that's why you were so desperate to have the CHR taken off KMX..because YOU could not compete with real radio. Besides when it comes down to two stations..it usually makes more sense to give the big stick the advantage.

It always has and always will take its cue from 193! But baited, I don't know, what if we word-smith a little and say scented breath. Nicer connotation this close to the holiday. Speaking of which I hope you all had an enjoyable Thanksgiving!
