Clear Channel Radio flipped WKOX-WXKS-AM/Boston to tropical "Rumba 1200, Orgullo Latino." The PD is Raffy Contigo.

"Rumba" focuses on salsa, merengue, bachata and reggaetón music by artists like Marc Anthony, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Victor Manuelle, Gran Combo, Juan Luis Guerra, Daddy Yankee, Monchy & Alexandra, India and Aventura.

"We are excited about the addition of Rumba 1200 to our family of stations. Spanish radio is one of the fastest growing formats in our industry," said Boston radio president/market manager Michael Crusham. "This puts us in a better position to offer more choices to our valued listeners and advertisers. Boston was the only top 25 U.S. Hispanic market void of a full powered signal and we felt the time was right to make this significant format choice

Am radio is a start. What's really needed is a FM powerhouse.

Yeah they tried that in philly and it bombed on fm

It did not "bomb." All that happened is that they saw that in a market that is 5% highly assimilated Hispanic all they could hope for was about a 1.5 share in the People Meter and they went to a larger potential non-Hispanic format.
