It's About Time For The Truth

alw typed,
Mr. cee:

I would love to ask Jimmy Adler, I've heard that he has moved to Florida or some other warmer clime. Any info?

I worked with Jim until he retired. I believe he lives in or near Deland, FL. If by chance you make contact, please tell him the people in the Ch. 7 engineering dept. said to say hi...

Ok, ok, I can't stand it anymore. I admit to being a "lurker" on this board for sometime and in the spirit of full disclosure I am a former public broadcasting employee. But believe me I have no loyalty to WXXI -my loyalty is to fairly nonpartisan reporting and entertainment that can't be found on the other 500 satellite stations (radio and tv) that come into my home (for which I pay obscene amounts of money annually.) I have my thoughts on public tv salaries, etc but don't wish to share them here. However, I really hate misleading "facts" and need to set the record straight on Scott Regan. I have never heard the afore-mentioned program on WRUR but I do know Scott Regan does have a background in music and as a personal aside - why would you bash someone who spent his years taking care of his children? Now excuse me while I creep back into my cave!

Uh-oh

Former public broadcasting employee...

Lurking around broadcasting boards...

"Can't stand it anymore", and is driven to post...

I think that you'd better get to the doctor and get a blood test for "broadcastingitis". Something's in your blood.

I'm finished discussing the subject and posting on here. It's not worth the ridicule I'm getting or the time I'm spending.
It would be a pity if you decided to walk away from this board based on one line of my post...
Not trying to be a wise ass, maybe get therapy and consolation.
or a hundred lines of other people's posts. My initial post also included the words,
VOR... you've made your points here. I can understand your fervor and your discontent. Did you ever think of puting up a website? Going "Michael Moore?" I'm not suggesting you stop posting here.
When I advised "therapy and consolation," it was a suggestion to get together with people who share your views, talk about the situation and do something about it, as in "going Michael Moore." Words can be powerful, but mine were not intended to be judgemental. My apologies. Something tells me you'll be back. This is a good forum.

However, I really hate misleading "facts" and need to set the record straight on Scott Regan. I have never heard the afore-mentioned program on WRUR but I do know Scott Regan does have a background in music and as a personal aside - why would you bash someone who spent his years taking care of his children?

I didn't bash him for taking care of his kids - very admirable. I'll bet he's a very nice guy...and he probably knows a lot about music(though so do most of the people who post on this board...and many, many other people). And his show is very interesting. But he got the job because he's married to the VP. It's called nepotism. WXXI has a legal right do hire on that basis and VOR and I have a legal right to point it out.

This is nothing new, of course. George W. Bush's entire life is a result of nepotism. Harvard grad, yes. Without his family connections, he would have had a hard time not flunking out of Bryant and Stratton.

Of course, I'm just envious due to some bad decisions I made in my formative years, as already explained in this string.

I have no knowledge at all about this. Perhaps I shouldn't even be posting here. But I would assume this WRUR host is doing his show as a volunteer. So, the nepotism argument would carry less weight. I do know that specialty music shows on many college- and university-based radio stations are still done by volunteers who have a passion for their particular form of music. WRUR when it's not running WXXI's NPR programming is still programmed by U of R students. They don't have a budget for salaries. Again, I have no direct knowledge about this. So, unless someone in the know confirms this particular host is getting paid, I'm just suggesting the possibility that he could be a volunteer.
