Yes, it's going to be a girlfight at the battle of #1 next week.

Mariah Carey or Kelly Clarkson? Black or Blonde? R&B or Pop-Rock?

Right now, Mariah Carey is ahead with about 500 spins, but Kelly Clarkson is coming on close!

Or will Fergie make it?

It's gonna be a battle. Guess we'll have to wait and see who replaces "Hollaback Girl".

Any predictions?

My pick would be Kelly Clarkson, though Mariah will be a tough match.

Mariah won. *sigh*

Kelly Clarkson MAY STILL BE ABLE to push off Mariah before another peaking song comes in.

Although I like Kelly's song better, I'm very glad to see a veteran artist hit #1 on the pop chart without the assistance of guest-star rappers.

According to the Mediabase Chart (R&R) that I just looked at, Mariah is almost 800 spins ahead of Kelly Clarkson and gaining spins at a faster rate than Kelly. Of course that may change as the week continues, but since Kelly's song gained spins at a much faster rate during it's total time on air than Mariah's, Kelly's song may be showing some fatigue at the stations that jumped on it early.

The thing here is that Mariah's new single "Shake It Off" is moving up fast. If it continues, "We Belong Together" may not be #1 for too long, and "Behind These Hazel Eyes" might jump up. Then again, The Black Eyed Peas are as well close. It all depends on how many people catch on to Mariah's new single. If it becomes huge, don't expect Mariah to have a long run at the top spot.

You know, I've been avoiding the whole Kelly "phenomenon" for a long time, trying to find different things wrong with every single she's had, grumbling that she's just big because of some dumb TV show...... BUT....... DAMN! I am in love with "Behind These Hazel Eyes"!! Every time I hear it (on my "SAM2 Party DJ" rotation), I think, "Damn, this is good friggin' song!"

Just thought I'd share :) I'm sure I'm a Johnny-come-lately on this song and CHR listeners are probably burnt out on it by now, but I'm not much of a CHR listener these days, so it's still new to me.

And, back to the original topic, I'm definitely into the Mariah song, too! As someone else here pointed out, it's nice to see her get a big hit without a guest rapper.<P ID="signature">______________
