I HAVE A QUESTION.......


HOW DID Z DO IN THE MAKING MONEY DEP.? I ASK THIS QUESTION BECAUSE THATS ALL THAT REALLY MATTERS.FOR ONE TO KNOW WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN WITH Z, ONE NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND COX RADIO. COX RADIO LIKE ALL THE OTHER BIG CORPS, LOOK AT THE MONEY FLOW FIRST.WE ALL KNOW THAT RATINGS = TO MONEY. NO RATINGS NO MONEY. THAT IS NOT THE CASE WITH Z AND COX SAN ANTONIO.THE WAY THAT COX SAN ANTONIO LOOKS AT IT IS LIKE A SMALL ARMY TRYING TO TAKE AS MUCH OF THE SAN ANTONIO THE PIE AS CAN.IN THIS ARMY YOU HAVE YOUR ROLE PLAYERS. THE BIG DOGS THAT MAKE THE MONEY ARE KONO,KISS,Y100 AND THEY WOULD LOVE TO HAVE MAGIC IN THAT ROLE BUT ITS JUST NOT HPPENING.FALLING LAST IS THE POOR Z. HOW DO WE PROTECT THE CASH FLOW FROM THE BIG DOGS?????? WE SEND Z TO WATCH OUR BACKS. THEY HAVE MADE Z,JAMZ,JAMMING OLDIES 106.7 THE FLANKER STATION. WHEN 102.7 KTFM FLIPPED TO K-ROCK, THEY SAW A HOLE IN THE MARKET. COX JUMPS AT HOLES IN MARKET FASTER THAN MOST BIG CORPS. THERE YOU HAVE THE BIRTH OF Z, AND THE DESIRE IF MAKING Z A PLAYER IN THE MARKET. WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG......... LOOK I HATE DANCE MUSIC BUT IF THEY DID NOT FIP RIGHT AWAY TO Z, MOST OF ALL THE KTFM LISTERS WOULD HAVE GONE TO JAMZ AND THE BEAT. BY NOW IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A DIFFERENT STORY AND MAY BE JAMZ WOULD BE IN TOP TEN. THE CONCERN WAS THAT JAMZ HAD NO FUTURE,IT WAS THE STEP CHILD, A LIL FLANKER STATION. I GUESS RESERCH WAS WRONG............ SO AS LONG AS THE CAN SELL Z THEY ARE NOT GOING TO FLIP............
 
I couldn't agree with you more. 106-7 Jamz would have been somewhere in the Top 10 and possibily a Top 5 station. Most listeners from KTFM would have flock to Jamz and not the Beat. It was a dumb move for Cox to flip Jamz so quickly.

If you or anyone has taken a listen to Z lately. You'll notice that Z has very little advertisers during morning drive and for that matter throughout the day. It will be interesting to see how much longer Cox keeps Z alive.
 
I agree with all of ya'll completly allthough I give Cox a little credit though for trying to keep Z alive, but they should of done that with Jamz a little more than they did. The last time I listened to Z was when I did a aircheck back in 05.
 
Finally someone gets it? Z sales dept was a swinging door and it will continue to be. If it flips again it won't be for the better of the station it will be just because.
 
LOOk, I DON'T CLAIM TO KNOW IT ALL ABOUT Z.I HAVE HADE MY SHARE OF GOOD THINGS AND BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO ME. AFTER ALL SAID AND DONE, I LOVE RADIO. NOW THAT I GOT THAT OF MY CHEST, HERE WE GO..................

1) THE JAMZ FLIP HAPPEN TO FAST. MORE TIME SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN TO JAMZ.
2) I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO BE IN THE MEETING IN WITCH THE DECISION TO FIP JAMZ TO Z SO I COULD OF SAID A WORD OR TWO ON THE SAN ANTONIO MARKET AT THE TIME.I GUESS THAT THE RADIO GODS KNOW BETTER THAN THE LOCAL TALENT THAT HAVE LIVED IN SAN ANTONIO ALL THEIR LIVES AND UNDERSTAND THE MARKET. MAKING ROOM BETWEEN MIX AND THE BEAT IS THE WRONG MOVE. COX PROBABBLY DID NOT WANT TO GO ALL HIP HOP BECAUSE A COUPLE OF REASONS.ONE, IT'S HARD TO SELL HIP HOP,TWO THAT MOVE WOULD AFFECT KNONO KISS AND Y100. THAT WOULD PUT A STATION IN THE TOP 5, KNOCK KISS KONO AND Y100 DOWN. IT LOOKS GOOD TO HAVE A STATION TOP 5, THE KICKER IS CAN THEY SELL IT LIKE A TOP 5 RADIO STATION. COX DID NOT THINK SO. THATS WHY THEY DECITED ON A STATION THAT DID NOT BOTHER KISS KONO OR Y100. BY DESIGN IT'S GOLE IS TO ONCE AGAIN TO BE A ROLE PLAYER.

3) I'M GLAD TO SEE MIX DO WELL,CLEAR CHANNEL HAS REALLY PUT SOME LOVE BEHIND THAT STATION,THE HAVE SPENT MONEY TO MAKE MONEY, SOMETHING THAT COX HAS NOT DONE WITH THE POOR Z.

4)MIX HAS TRIED TO BRING SOME WHAT OF A BIG MORNING SHOW TO SAN ANTONIO.Z HAS NOTHING IN THAT DEPARTMENT

5)MUSIC IS BETTER PICKED AND SCHEDULE ON MIX THAN ON Z

6)THE TALENT IS BETTER ON MIX THAN ON Z

7) MIX HAS MORE STREET CREDIT THAN Z

8) THE BEAT KICKS MIX AND Z A$$ IN ALL CATAGORIES...............THATS WHY THEY ARE NUMBER ONE IN THE MARKET 12+

I think your right on the money!
 
Most decisions being made are done outside of the local market. Unfortunately, this is a problem that's happening in many markets.

Mix 96.1 has done a decent job however; they haven't done any better in the ratings. I still believe people in S.A. could careless about artist such Fray, James Blunt, Matchbox Twenty, 3 Doors Down and others. San Antonio is a Rhythmic city. Mix 96.1. Z106.7, Jack, and Magic will continue to struggle. Some of you probably won't agree with me but the proof is in the numbers.

San Antonio is a rhythmic city! Nuff said...Z, Mix...those stations will probably not do any better than they have done as of late.

But, here are my opinions...

1. Z has better street cred that Mix, Mix is practically a non-factor! Z has the vehicles, are in the right places, and know the right people in the streets.
2. The Z jocks have more personality than the Mix jocks...Travatto, Russel Rush & the new Mo' Bounce have no knowledge of the San Antonio market. None are from here or near Texas. All Z jocks are from San Antonio or the surrounding areas!!
3. I do give credit to Clear Channel for giving Mix more freedom to do on-air things that people want to hear...which is something Cox won't do with Z.

There ya go!!
 
You know just like the other guy said you cant argue with numbers. I disagree with you about Z. More street cred? Better jocks? Then why arent the numbers there to back up your claim? True the Z jocks are mostly from here but apparently that doesnt seem to be making a difference in the numbers game now does it? I know if I worked for Mix 96.1 I wouldnt be worried about Z at all. They are barely staying alive and it looks as if they have dug their own grave.
 
Alright! Here we go again. Z-has no cred in the streets nor does mix. The crews are not personable with the listeners they just stand around. Z's vehicles are sweet but it is not about the vehicles. Kiss has a crappy vehicle but they are personable so was kono, y100. Now jammin has an ok vehicle and there crews are personable at least they have that going for them they can even have a bit of street cred only because they have worked here before. The beat on the other handhas the vehicles, personable crews and especially the street creds. All the on air personalities except ham are from SA or have worked in SA (The old KTFM) So if you think that Z has street cred then you are just a fan. Facts are facts and that is all I know. Don't forget that this city has always fluctuated through the years but overall rock has been on top (hate to say that because I am a rythmic type of guy). Especially when it comes to money. That's why the sales crew at kiss & kzep stay along time. They get payed

z jocks are from here? i think not. robbie is from here. doug is not from here..he is a transplant. jay is from houston texas i believe. adam michaels is from podunk nebraska!

z has more street credibility!!!! you make me laugh with that...z has no one that represents in the streets. ohhh..you dont mean their street team? i have seen them...thats a joke. actually..the only person with street credibility on the station is robbie rob. the only other person is rewind and he is in sales so he doesnt count! he has more street credibility than the entire station...too bad he is not in programming or promotions!

mix has no street cred...i am suprised they dont get carjacked....however they have very cute promo girls compared to z's overweight heffers

mix jocks vs z jocks....the mix jocks actually sound decent and they are trying. z is the same cookie cutter it has always been..the real truth is both stations jocks suck. the mix jocks sound real and thats what it is about...the z jocks sound like thiey are going through puberty. doug is terrible. jay is okay but needs a mans voice. adam thinks he is funny and is not. he is really corny....robbie.....ahhh i have nothing bad to say

to all the cox critics.....z is a flanker...and will always be... its there to ensure cox radio gets a share of the kids, teens, and young adults.....as for the old 1067jamz.....foolish they were great in the clubs and at mitsubishi but other than that advertisers did not want to buy the format...cool doesnt equal $$$$...ratings equal $$$$$

to the beat critics....yes the beat is ghetto and whack and plays everything 50 times a day...unfortunately in sa....they are the best. as for appealing in person...i wish body solutions was around to help them

as for money, miller kaplan shows z sales is making money....not a whole lot but they seem to be benifiting from cluster buys, nationals, the beat oversold, the mixs 30 sec spots

and finally....some of you need to do some research or ask a veteran before you post your bull!@#$ opinions.
being a board op at your station does not make you a radio expert. when you work your way up to the higher echelons of radio you will understand what corp radio is about. if you dont like it....go buy your own radio station or go somewhere were they will respect your ill manned in expierienced opinion..or eveen better do your own show on am radio in the middle of the night..corp radio is going no where.

wow my nipples just got hard. amen to that brother. i have been in several markets and several cities and i hate it when promotions van drivers, petty board ops, or has beens throw in their 2 cents when no one really cares. i am not attacking anyone or anything but i see it in every market I have ever been in. so dont assume i am talking mess. deejay05 i think i just fell in love with you. lol
 
ahh all this radio corp crud is the reason why I have XM. Been sick and tired of crap on SA radio since KSJL flipped to Mix back in 1998, then it was all downhill from there.
 
With new drops and a new contest. Don't look for Z to flip anytime soon. Yes, I'm aware that it's still possible but very unlikely at this point.
 
I don't think Cox corporate would send out a memo saying "we are switching formats, don't start new contests." Nearly every format flip in history has been in the middle of a contest or after new drops were put on the air. They are doomed.
