It's almost time

Sears is already working on putting Christmas trees, etc out in the store this past week....made me think...all-Christmas isn't far off. With the economy the way it is, and radio stations likely needing extra advertising money, I'm sure the Christmas music will be earlier than ever this year. Want to make any predictions who will be first and when??

I know that in Greenville Magic was first last year, I think they did a "preview weekend" the first weekend in November, so they could beat MY to the punch. Makes me wonder if MY will do it even earlier this year to be 'first' or if Magic will start insanely early to ensure they are first again (have to consider though that they had a different PD last year). I'm betting one of the 2 will be "previewing" 11/6-11/7 (or even 10/31-11/1) and all-Christmas by the 20th. I'm sure as soon as one has a preview weekend the other will have one as well the next week.

this is where radio people out think real people. christmas music is ok after thanksgiving. halloween weekend to play christmas is crazy. planning and shopping is one thing. mood is something different. then there is a general manager who wants to make budget. we can't win.

Agreed. They get earlier each year. It's fine for 3 or 4 weeks before but this preview stuff starting almost 2 months before Christmas is insanity.

Oh, forgot that WLFJ will be all-Christmas probably. They were last year but didn't start really early like 98.9 or 102.5.

JMO but three big-signal FM stations all playing Christmas is a bit excessive.

So....it's really almost time...any guesses who will make the first move? I don't think it will be WSPA but they will probably start as soon as MY does. If MY previews on a weekend, watch WSPA go non-stop Christmas quickly. ;) ;)

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think Magic's PD has ever done all-Christmas before.

My guesss for 102.5 in Charleston to start their Christmas format will on Thanksgiving. I don't see any other station in Charleston going that format.

K104.7 in Charlotte is previewing Christmas music this weekend Nov. 6 - 8. Wonder how soon it will be 'till Magic or My goes with their first preview weekend.

I was listening to My and they mentioned a contest when you first hear Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree. So I'd guess it's not far off. No mention of Christmas on Magic except they say they are "The Upstate's Christmas Station"

glad 98.9 and 102.5 didn't play christmas music this weekend. i was at the mall and it didn't feel like christmas yet. leave it to radio to tell us when we need to think about christmas ;D

On Magic 98.9's 80's Lunch Hour today, Lee Alexander told the listeners they needed to get their 80's song requests in this week because Christmas music was coming. I wonder if that means they will start it this weekend?

I bet they will or before. I just now heard today on 102.5 that it's starting there this week, so I bet Magic will be all-Christmas by Friday.

OK, I was confused. I keep reading about 98.9 and 102.5 and had to remind myself that this is Greenville, not Charleston which has Y102.5 and 98.9 Chick FM. Neither one of them have gone Christmas... yet. You would think one would pop soon!

Looks like My 102.5 Wmyi Greenville has gone All Christmas this afternoon. It says their the carolinas christmas music station. Yeaaa. i love it:) Wonder when Magic 98.9 will go all christmas , probably tommorow or this weekend. My 102.5 The Christmas Station

WMYI is running Clear Channel's national Christmas feed, save for a few filler songs I guess.
WSPA's mix is very good, it is a little different. They played a few Christmas songs I haven't heard much, lots of oldies. It's not quite as repetitive.

Still....this is too soon. I listen to 98.9 and 102.5 the most, I guess I'll have to find an alternative until Thanksgiving. :-\ Wonder when WLFJ will go all-Christmas?

WXLY (Y102.5-Charleston) has gone all Christmas today. Don't know if they are using the national feed... but being that CC Charleston isn't very original, it probably is.
