It's already Christmas already on WLTW

Throughout the day today, Lite-FM has been mixing in Christmas music mixed in with their normal playlist. I don't recall hearing any liners announcing if this was just a special theme for the weekend or if the mix-in of holidays tunes will continue until the point when they go all-Christmas. And no, hearing "Feliz Navidad" on the radio this afternoon didn't help me get into the holiday spirit when it's not even Thanksgiving yet.

Meanwhile in central NJ, "Magic 98.3" is running liners announcing that they'll be playing "all your holiday favorites" this year, but they don't specify if that will be in the form of Christmas music mixed into the normal playlist or a flip to all-Christmas music at some point. I haven't heard them play any Christmas music yet, either.

I'm upstate watching my ala mater play some high school football and Lite's sister station WMXW-FM upstate in Binghamton is doing some Christmas sneak peeking this weekend too (and advertising in the newspaper) prior to switching the day after Thanksgiving... <P ID="signature">______________

Obsession With Christmas "Programming"

Count me as one who is mystified by the apparent obsession of some who count the first hearings of things Christmas as some sort of "event". It isn't.

Like the first robin of Spring, the programming of Christmas music/programming is, alas, more than predictable. Whether or not that music begins before Halloween, before Thanksgiving or on Black Friday is the only variable.

So, please! Quit the obsession with "who-played-the-first-Christmas-tune"; it just ain't that interesting.
