After a 3 or so years absents, the Source has returned to 101.1 FM WYDE. WYDE has restarted using its old nickname as of Yesterday. I was listening to Lee Davis and I heard 101.1 the SOurce, I thought I was having freekin' flashbacks! THen I realized it was indeed back. Over the weekend though they played music after 12:00 PM.

Yes, I also believe Lee Davis is now using The Source as his flagship station instead of WXJC, although he still airs on WXJC. Also, WYDE has not been The Source since July 1st 2007, although with all the shakeups in radio it seems like it's been forever.

I wasn't really surprised WYDE went back to the talk format and the "Source" name. After all, these are the same folks who play "musical chairs" with their stations, whether it be call letters, formats, or individual programs (Do we all remember the birth, death, and rebirth of "Legends 1260"?). Lee Davis has been on WYDE before, of course, and Wayne Wallace and "The Caravan", I believe, have been on all four stations at some point or another. Do these folks wonder when they come in for work which station(s) they'll be broadcasting on? :D

Now that Lee Davis is on all four stations, along with the fact WYDE is now considered the "flagship" station for the show, his show will probably disappear off of WXJC-AM and FM in the near future. WYDE's music programming (what's left of it) will probably be phased out as well as more talk programming is added during the weekend time slots. It's very odd hearing WYDE offer talk during the week, and flipping the dial and finding them playing music on the weekend. I wouldn't expect that "schizophrenic hybrid" programming to continue for much longer. Oh wait...we're talking about Crawford Broadcasting...never mind... :D

And the station is still a perfectly good waste of a 100,000 watt signal. Too far from either Birmingham or Huntsville (or the Shoals) to adequately cover any of those cities, too unimaginatively programmed to matter...the station sounds like a small-town AM station.

Agreed. If The Source was owned by any other company, there would be no "musical chairs" of the formats at all and the power would have been halved at this point (ex. birth of "Hot 107.7" WUHT four years ago).

The best thing that could happen to 101 would be: Crawford sell it to someone local here in Cullman, switch back to Real Country and forget about serving Birmingham. In these tough economic times I doubt that will ever happen.

Worst of all, CBC easily spent boo-koo bucks on the engineering for 101.1 just for it to cover slightly more of each market. Dare I mention the expensive HDRadio setup that probably can't be received in the heart of either metro at all?

For 101.1 (or possibly 92.5), CBC would have been better served by putting in the same legwork that Cox & CC put in to upgrade Birmingham coverage of 95.7, 97.3, and 105.5--assuming that was once possible. Did they at least look at downgrading 101.1 to a C2 and moving south?

I have to agree with AL Rocker, bring 101 back to Cullman and flip it back to Real Country. As all of you probaly know from reading my posts, I am a big fan of the ABC satellite feed. I say bring back John Nichols aka "The Flying Dutchman" with his morning show, pipe in Kris Wilson's Midday Request Show, Richard Lee afternoons, and Steve Lewis overnights..... just thinking of this possibility (.00001% chance) makes me feel very ecstatic ;D

and...i would never listen. even now i can make it across there for 3-4 minutes before i just can't stand what they're saying. talk isn't all bad and it is a different format that is not everywhere else. but, i'm sure it can't be cheap to implement, either. afterall, unless you're sat all the time, you've got to pay the people to be there.

my vote? there's way too much country. i don't like country. pick something that doesn't exist in the ham, dullman, hsv, florence, or gadsden (if the signal even gets there). it comes in clearly in the cars where you'll get some secondary market (and with talk, people will listen in their cars). i'm thinking mexican (not that i'd listen to that either), or AAA (although yes, 100.5 is doing that and rather well - how are their ratings btw?). Hsv, florence, etc do not have AAA and last time i checked, it was getting it's share of listeners.

my .000000002 cents.

(yes, i'm loyal to AAA). very loyal.

Totally agree with you about country. AAA or another rock format other than classic rock to compete with The Rocket would be nice but I doubt it will ever happen.
