"Its Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas" already at Lite

94.9 Lite FM was playing Christmas music this weekend mixed in with their regulat playlist. No problem with that - if it were Thanksgiving and 45 degrees. Last time I checked, it is July and 90 degrees outside.

I suspect this was a "Christmas in July" stunt. Question is...when do they go all-Christmas this year? I have a feeling with the River drowning the ratings of both Lite and B98.5, the Christmas wars may start pretty early this year.

It seems that B98.5 and Lite fm always start the Christmas Festivities a little too early! I would only hope that this year is no earlier than most. By the time Xmas arrives it seems that your not in the mood for any more Christmas cheer.

I cannot believe Im writing this, but today I listened to Lite Fm for over 2 hours, and you know what, I liked them.. It was a good listen, as I often listen to 107.5 WJZZ when Im on the road seeing customers. I like the mix of music, and for once I have to give CC the thumbs up on this station, as for early Xmas music, I hate Xmas, Weekends, Gifts, and most of all holidays in general.. Anyone know of a part time gig that occurs on holidays?

Christmas in July is a brilliant way to grab the image at a surprising time--when it really stands out and gets people talking. It puts the signal out to listeners, clients and the competing stations considering the Holiday Music stunt that LITE is gonna handle it again this year. Good move.

I remember as a kid that "Christmas In July" was a huge commercial entity. Back then late July was still the middle of the Summer season and School was weeks away. So Madison Avenue needed a gimmick for sales and used it. TV played along with this and some cable networks decided to run Christmas themed programming for one day, usually the 25th in July. Of course this was also the day that the Home Shopping Network started counting down to Christmas and started selling merchandise for the Christmas shopping season.

Things have sure changed in a hurry. The age of political correctness has labeled Christmas as a "no no". Also School starts earlier, especially here in the South and stores don't need the "Christmas in July" gimmick anymore because of the "Back to School" sales. I am a bit surpirsed and a little impressed that Lite decided to pull the stunt that it has the past few years. Other than Lite the only entity that uses "Christmas In July" is Minor League Baseball teams as a promotion (usually tied to a Toys for Tots drive or something similar)

It will be interesting to see how Whoopi blends in with all the Holiday tunes.
