It's beginning to sound a lot like Christmas

...on EZ88.org (Knoxville).

I didn't know what to expect this year since they replaced beautiful music with contemporary standards. Thankfully, it's still the same Christmas music they've had in the past... a nice blend of soft instrumentals and pop vocals. I was afraid it might be 100% of that jazzy uptempo "new standard" type stuff.

Last year someone on this board asked when Dial Global starts Christmas music. I remember always hearing some on Thanksgiving Day, but 2001 was the first year they went all Christmas on Thanksgiving. As Jeff Rollins explained that year, it was their way of uplifting the nation's mood after the September 11th attacks. Looks like it's a popular trend which people have now come to expect, with many cities having an "official Christmas station."

I'm not planning to go out to eat on Thanksgiving. I decided that just wastes gas when I need to go to various libraries and do stuff (including getting on the Internet). I can eat at the place where I go for Thanksgiving anytime between now and Christmas and get the same food.

But I do remember how much I enjoyed it when Dial Global started up the all-Christmas sound on Thanksgiving. I can still listen as I fix lunch.

We'll have several all-Christmas stations here. I don't like a lot of what the adult contemporary stations play. But I do tune in for the occasional good song. I have trouble with the Dial Global signal at night--besides, they don't do much other than sports then anyway.
