Clear Channel's KEGL (97.1 La Preciosa) is leaving the format after two years. While CC/Dallas president/MM JD Freeman is tightlipped about what the replacement format will be, he did reveal that CC/Dallas is getting out of the Spanish-language space, and said the new format will be a general market station TBA. Effective at midnight tonight (Nov. 30), 97.1 will roll into commercial-free holiday music until Christmas.

"It's a very exciting project," he says, continuing to tease us about the station's new direction. "We're just happy that our listeners will have the opportunity to enjoy commercial-free Christmas music for now -- I think it's a wonderful gift from us to them."
 
OMG!!!!! :) ;D ;) :D Could this be a REAL Christmas present to some of us who crave music, and in English?!?

Will The Eagle return? Or Sunny? Or Z-97?

I do hate to see the name JD Freeman attached to this...after he ruined one of my presets, the station "formerly" known as 92.5. Hmmm...let's see...using the Lone Star example, the new format is probably very narrow, with limited appeal and out-of-date in nature. Based on that, I'd guess elevator music, or Full Service, or perhaps "Entertainment/Variety."

Rule out anything that resembles any format that CC already has...they will not compete with themselves.

Smooth jazz could still be a reality here, but I'd guess it'd be something safe, like another KVIL ripoff.
 
Now if only the other Spanish speaking tex mex speaking,castillian speaking formats go bye bye,it would indeed be a wonderful christmas.

Spanish is Castillian, and Tex Mex is a culture that is mostly English speaking.

This is what should happen in the Clear Channel cluster:

92.5: flips to Country still using the LoneStar handle name.
97.1: Flips to Classic Rock using the "Eagle Name."
102.1: Tweaks to Active Rock, but keeps the "Edge" name
102.9: Stays the same
106.1: Stays the same

This would balance the cluster perfectly. Kiss would stop playing the cross-over Country and so would Mix. The new Country station would give KSCS and The Wolf some great competition.

We're still awaiting a imminent flip of 105.3 to Active Rock or Alternative to go head to head with the Edge. It's not "If", but "When."

Last...Has anyone noticed the slight uptick in the Twister's ratings from a mere .9 to 1.1 to a 1.4? If I were someone up high and Citadel/ESPN group I would consider flipping 96.7 with 103.3. They could give both Country stations a run on the 103.3 stick.

Just simualcast on both....since 103.3 is in Ethel and 96.7 is in Wise Co, they need both to cover all of DFW...put ESPN on 93.3, at least it would have direction (whew! :)

If it were only that easy. KESN-FM is still owned by Disney. Citidel did not either ESPN Radio or Radio Disney in the ABC buyout.

So was I...but we'll know more next week...(cute girl at the MRI place though...she started flirting with me saying her birthday was one day before mine...then as I was leaving, I could swear the blouse was showing a little more than earlier :) I hope I dont have to go back but wouldnt mind if I did ;) Finally foiund a vertical MRI..cant do a laydown (damn claustophobia!)..tried one 4 years ago...and was out of it in 5 minutes.....
And this week just ended more weird!...my dogs were barking earlier in the back...got them inside..then noticed a pickup outside on the street parked on wrong side of road and half way out in lane...called cops, they show up, find owner who says his son was in it at "the movies"....when the dad shows up, the cop and I had a bet the engine would start (it did) and we both wanted to see what the kid would tell daddy (even if its a lie, its gonna be a doozy!)...

SO much for a quiet week...time to go watch Lewis Black on Comedy Central..I could use the laugh....

My Money is on either classic or active rock format, seeing this town needs one of those formats to fill
