It's beginning to sound a lot like Christmas

Mannheim, definitely. You don't hear about them any other time of year...it's as if they come out of hiding in November and go back into hibernation before the ball drops in Times Square.
Fun Fact: This kind of a thing was such a running joke about Michael Buble that there are a bunch of internet memes with his photo, saying something akin to "Christmas is almost here..Time for Michael Buble to emerge from his cave".

What cave? Dancing with the Stars had a night devoted to Michael Bublé exactly one week before Halloween this year. The singer served as a guest judge and performed two songs, including the opening number ("Sway").

Michael Buble's 'Home' is still a staple of the AC format - same with 'Haven't Met You Yet'.

I dunno, you'll need to ask the folks who created the memes if they don't make sense to you...But at one point there were so many Buble related "cave" memes around the holidays that they spurned cave memes wondering which Buble cave meme would emerge first as the Christmas season came upon us.

But just as a Classic Hits or Classic Rock station isn't going to play anything from the last two decades, unfamiliar Christmas songs are self-defeating. If Train, Kelly Clarkson or John Legend release a new Christmas album, you play it, but only their new interpretations of songs we already know. No new compositions.
This simply isn’t true. Kelly Clarkson had an original that has become a regular part of the format. Taylor Swift likewise.

I have heard Kelly Clarkson's "Underneath the Tree" on the radio, on TV, and in a movie trailer, but I haven't heard a Taylor Swift Christmas song on the radio or on TV. I'm guessing that the song in question is "Christmas Tree Farm."

It is. And it’s a quite good song, but that’s beside the point. There was also Santa Tell Me by Ariana Grande, or Santa Can’t You Hear Me by Clarkson and Grande.

Songs do get added in. Some will hold up over time; some won’t. But the playlists aren’t entirely frozen with no new compositions. They’re not frequent, but they continue. Many of what now constitute classics were the newbies in their days.

Mannheim, definitely. You don't hear about them any other time of year...it's as if they come out of hiding in November and go back into hibernation before the ball drops in Times Square. Trans-Siberian Orchestra, too. 'Christmas Canon' is still well-loved by listeners, me included.
They all should be in hiding, except for the kids on "Canon". here is an ultra-traditional version of "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen" by Mannheim Steamroller but that's about all I like by them. I have another of their songs listed in my Christmas fantasy iPod so it must be an exception, but I find that many time when I hear something I despise, it's by them. "Deck the Halls" was an interesting novelty but I'm not willing to make an exception for anything with synthesizer.
Jimmy Boyd? Kidding? He's at the same level as Spike Jones. Little kids of the '50s singing novelty holiday songs that should rarely get played.
I like those from time to time, and the Chipmunks. Musically, "The Chipmunk Song" is really good.

Don't get me started on Barking Dogs 'Jingle Bells'...which I think 'Santa 95.7' aired yesterday in Tri-Cities. Carts of that song should be burned and thrown in the ocean.
Yeah, I heard that once and that was enough.
I'm also getting tired of Pentatonix and Meghan Trainor. Appealing to young women, I get it.
Can't stand Pentatonix, but I like Manhattan Transfer which does that better.
Gene Autry Santa Coming to Town should be 'Here Comes Santa Claus,' and the original Rudolph is spun on overload even to this day. Much more than Burl Ives' version from the TV special.
I like these.
I wonder if some stations are playing Christmas songs from Olivia Newton-John given her recent death. Her version of 'The First Noel' is gorgeous, but you won't hear it on a major market station at all.
I'd like to hear it. No woman is better than Karen Carpenter, though.
Now if I was programming a Christmas station (in your wildest dreams), there would be a minimum 2 smooth jazz/piano instrumentals per hour. Jim Brickman, Dave Koz, etc. and smoother vocals (Vanessa Williams/Bobby Caldwell 'Baby, It's Cold Inside' is an example).
Nope. No smooth jazz at Christmas. None of that Jim Brickman stuff either.
Again, in my wildest dreams! Less novelties, more holiday favorites, with a 1/2-1/2 on Santa/winter and traditional/Jesus birth songs.
Agree.
My local Christmas station sometimes puts on country Christmas songs - Lorrie Morgan, Garth Brooks, etc. It's not surprising given the rural location of Yakima.
Some are good.

On radio stations I listen to, he's always out and about.

I'm not sure if it's being played as much (or at all) this year as I haven't listened to any Christmas music this season, but another popular newcomer there for a while was Gwen Stefani / Blake Shelton's "You make it feel like Christmas".

Cannot stand that last one (the Gwen/Blake duet). The Neil Diamond song, different lyrics, same title, is nice. Not often heard on the format nowadays.

Oh, and if I hear 'Text Me Merry Christmas' by Straight No Chaser and Kristen Bell even once this holiday season, I might puke. Worst Christmas song ever! At least, with English language vocals. Barking Dogs is the worst in any language. Animal sounds count in that example.

Oh yeah, I heard that one repeatedly for several years. Still just ramping up my holiday listening this year, but that was a big one.

No. Christmas Shoes is the absolute worst ever. Wretched garbage. Far worse than novelty songs that are nothing more than they are intended to be, that one is “serious.” And it is putrid.

^^^ This! I used to HATE that song. And it was most likely BS, not even based on a real story, just intended to depress the hell out of people at a time of year that should be joyful. When that song started in, my fingers couldn't hit the "seek" or "scan" buttons (remember those?) fast enough!

I thought that was the same one. Neil Diamond's songs are okay, even though I think he's Jewish. But so is kenny G and his Christmas songs are at least okay compared to his songs the rest of the years.

I have no idea what that is and apparently Ii should be grateful.
