Bruce St James did a good job on his first day as the replacement for Aunt Carlos on KT'R. But those sappy stagers and rejoiners referring to him as just "Bruce" didn't do anything for the Buckeye Boyz. All in all, BSJ is a solid add to KT'R's lineup.
Evidently good Doctor, we were not listening to the same broadcast. What I heard was a show that sounded more as though it belonged in market 150, not market 15. Between windows system sounds, "mouseover", "error", "start up" (etc) sounds going out over the air, it seems Bruce didn't even know how to work the phone system.... I turned the show on shortly after 10am and heard him having an issue getting a caller named "bob" on the air and then subsequently off the air, then taking a break so he could "learn the phone system". I could only imagine what hour number one was like! The overnight board op for Coast-to-Coast AM in Anchorage, Alaska likely knows how to answer a phone, yet a midday talker in Phoenix does not? Other minor technical gaffes aside, the topics were rather bland, restrictive and predictable.
The imaging was also small market sounding. At least KFYI integrates Killerhertz and ChaseCuts packages into their imaging, sure it's AM but it sounds relatively edgy and fresh, KTAR sounds "mom and pop". I'm pretty sure I could whip up better imaging in about 60 seconds and a better show in that much time as well.
How does KTAR have the number 3 host in America (Beck) and yet the rest of their shows consist of second rate, shtick duos or pukers with only the ability to ask questions and get short, regurgitated answers from a 10th place audience. KTAR, I've said it before and I'll say it again, aim a little higher.
