KKMJ is running promos that say the Christmas music won't start until Turkey Day. Still, that's an entire month of Christmas music. Jesus!

Sunny usually receives a good ratings spike during Christmastime. I am not surprised at the earlier than usual flip.

No, not that! It is just that Arbitron's last 4-week phase of the Fall book started last Thursday, and the book ends earlier than most recent years, on December 14th. So, to get the full benefit of the Christmas music, they began 4 weeks out.

Remember, "reason" and "logic" are not necessarily the same. There is an Arbitron based reason, but it does not seem logical to start as week before Thanksgiving. But then again, I am not a woman, and this seasonal thing is targeted entirely at women.

Meanwhile at The Wave...

KHJZ's website is now streaming an all-Smooth Jazz Christmas channel, but you have to register in order to listen.

If the Senior Road IBOC upgrade is completed and 95.7 launches their digital transmission, betcha this would be on the HD2 channel.

In most US Markets, Adult Contemporary Stations are NOW playing Christmas Music.

It is also the fact that advertisers want stations to start holiday music sooner so it will get holiday shoppers "in the spirit" and "to get their shopping done!". Plus, some stations won't be switching till Thanksgiving Weekend, a weekend AFTER the start of the Phase II.

I have never heard that reason expressed. Since stations in the big markets depend on agency business, and most significant retail accounts are agency placed, I would not have thought there was much direct benefit.

Every store I walked into this weekend has Sunny on loud and clear. If there is a radio on, it was on Sunny. BTW who is the girl on the weekend there? She does a nice job.

Could be Jacquie Hall. She does most weekendss.

Sounds right. She makes non stop Christmas music listenable. Almost!!

Re: Not Just Arbitron

add KQXT 101.9 in San Antonio to the Christmas music format. But I like Sunny's Christmas music better (I'm streaming it online, don't live in Houston), they have a better variety of X-mas music, plus they throw in a few regular songs. I heard "What's Going On" a few hours ago and "Close the Window" which don't sick out like a sore thumb in the X-mas mix but does compliment the season. Ok Clay Aiken is on now, I can tolerate that. Speaking of...is it me or does Clay look like K.D. Lang???

> I think the Wave will be next to utilize the latest in HD technology, which will allow listeners to enjoy 3 kinds of music, Including Its Mother Station. On the other hand, KODA would go HD, too. For Example; While SUNNY is Playing Christmas Music on its main frequency, They can enjoy the best soft rock on the second channel, Smooth jazz on the third channel,'60s-'80s Classic Hits on the fourth channel, and of course Elevator Music on the fifth channel. THAT is using technology.

Re: Meanwhile at The Wave...

The Wave will utilize HD in the near future. We discussed it in a staff meeting months ago. Plans have been underway for sometime, now.
