Ah..but the kicker...are all the original rock tunes that Dr Johnny Fever spun still part of the show? Or have they been replaced with knock-off, generic rock, as was the case when the show was rerun on Nick at Nite....because MTM and the artists couldn't come to an agreement?

(Check out the pilot episode...as Dr Johnny Fever yells "BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGER" and fires up the turntable(1)....the arm (2)skips all the way over to the record label,(3) as the music plays)

Great show...hope they release it intact...

for the under 30 crowd
1) Turntables preceded cd players , cassetteplayers.. and....um...well cassettes were these...um...ok, never mind..

From what I've found they are the originals. That is what has taken them sooooooooo long to get this deal done.
I thought I was the only one who ever noticed that turntable scene. I own the VHS tapes they put out back in the 90's but there was just never enough episodes.

I was a sophomore in college...second year as a dj at the college station....i remember a couple of us watching, and we couldn't beleive that scene....we loved it...and really came to appreciate the show...especially as i progressed "up and down the dial" ..where just about every station i worked at, had at least one employee who matched up to a KRP staffer....well...matching Jennifer was a stretch, but one sister in law of a particular owner came pretty close.

Sadly, these will NOT contain all the original music. I'm a huge fan of the show but I'm going to have to pass on this one. I can't imagine Les putting the wig on to anything other than "Hot Blooded"

Actually, the original music will be included in this DVD set. Fox has spent the past several years obtaining the rights to the original music from the original run of the series. This is why it has taken so long. Buy this set or seasons 2-4 may never see the light of day!

An acquaintance of mine was a writer/producer on the show. He just e-mailed me that the original music has been taken out. Fox couldn't get around the rights issues. Damn.

IGN has a copy of what the DVD cover is going to look like:

Hold my order, terrible dresser...

The article also mentions it being a "full-length" release, so I don't know if that's double speak for original music staying intact or not...

I bet I win the award for dorkiest WKRP fan..it's my license plate :)

WKRP

I saw on another board that this first season of "WKRP In Cincinnati" is available (pre-release) at Amazon. It wasn't sluggedas such so I thought just in case you missed it I would post it again. Seems that the music will be the original stuff and not generic copies of songs. Seeing the "birth" of Doctor Johnny Fever in the first episode is worth the price.

Last I heard, some (not all) of the original music has been cleared, and any replacement music used will be more appropriate to the series. Most likely an improvement over the TVLand episodes, anyhow.

Sure hope the eps are full length (not the syndie cuts). That would make it worth the price of admission for me.
