It's Getting Serious for Sirius XM

Neither one of these companies had a prayer of survival from the get go. Start up costs were enormous and they've thrown elephant dollars at talent. The available listener pool is nowhere large enough to support an operation like that. It's likely to become a jukebox operation just like you get from terrestrial.

I guess neither XM or Sirius had a chance. Even though they had 20 million subscribers not counting the 18 million with DirecTV and 15 million with Dish who subscribers listen to their stations.

I guess we are stuck with Free 3 classic rock stations, 5 sports stations, 2 country radio stations, a right wing station and don't know how many religious stations. No more variety in music or talk. No competition to get listeners. No more liberal left agenda talk or gay talk. Good bye to all you Elvis fans. Hope you can hear Elvis on local radio. And not to mention Good bye to the King of all Media.

NAB and Corporate radio wins...!!!

But, you music lovers who like specialty and left wackos still have our iPhone and Google G1 that is able to provide streaming diversity and commercial free music. The NAB will be after you next.

Boy this hit home with me today, since I was in town in someone else's car, without satellite radio or an aux-in jack.

I should like Memphis radio since I like classic rock and various similar formats. But after a while… Ouch. The whole "everyone plays commercials at the same time" thing really bugged me. If Sirius XM goes the way of the dodo, it'll really stink. On the other hand, I did finally get to hear Karson (with a K?) on KQK and their schitzo playlists, as well more from the Oink 96.1... At least they're trying to be different. (Both of 'em.)
