It's Here: Format Change for 97.7, WCLS-FM, Spencer--CLASSIC HITS

I heard the change, last night, at midnight, local time. Their Christmas music ended with a song from the Charlie Brown Christmas Album, which went into AP Network News (at the top of the hour), and, into their first classic hit. I applaud their attempt at a new format in many, many years. I especially applaud their move from country; however, I am curious as to what others think about this format and its ability to work on this frequency. My initial thought is that a straight oldies station may have been a better choice, if Mid America wanted to go with this type of format. Now, let's talk amongst ourselves...

Their local inserts are too hot and the time announce from the automation sounds cheap, otherwise what can you say. it's canned via the bird.

Mid-America's station automations sound choppy for the most part on all of their stations. Their newer station MYJOY is another proof of that. My guess is they will be no big deal, Super Oldies ownes the franchise locally

They are using West Wood One's The Oldies Channel, but they are using Jones' Classic Hits format slogan. AP news sounds cheap too.

Like all automated voices, it sounds worse over time. But it is a dead giveaway that the Jocks are "canned via the bird".

The Classic Hits is refreshing to say the least. WW1 Mainstream Country wasn't a great format -- or WSKT/WCLS just didn't do it well. Kat Country and "Your kinda country" were two seperate slogans and they were both used all over the place.
