It's Here. KTWL-FM Hempstead/The Woodlands

Bob is on the air here in The Woodlands. It is an exact duplicate of KBPA-FM in Austin. The only thing surprising I have heard on the station so far is that they have taken one of the Lite FM jocks and moved him to Bob. I didn't expect to hear a dj on the air on day 1. About every 30 minutes he comes on and says "That was ________, this is _________. Hey! Bob plays anything."

...and I thought the Point liner cards were bad. ;)
______________

I live in the middle of The Woodlands and I can pick up the station in my house, but it's full of static. Sounds bad in the car too. There is no way you could pick up the signal in a building with just a regular desktop radio or walkman.

Does Roy Henderson still own that station?
______________

Yup, pretty much a typical "Bob" format. Signal is stil going to be too weak to make an impact anywhere in the Houston market. They should target Bryan-College Station instead.

BTW, KULF 94.1 must still have its old facility on air, as I can't get any usable signal from it in Cy-Fair today. There had been a few posters wondering if the upgrade to a C2 would hit the air today.

.....just listened for the TOH SID minutes before the 3pm hour and it was given as "KTWL, Hempstead/Denver" or something to that effect.....getting a very listenable signal on this now (cloudy day), so unless it's my hearing deficiency, wonder what the heck is going on, other than it really is a KBPA simulcast......

right now at 3:25pm at Research Forest and I-45, 105.3 is very staticy and has noticable drop outs. When I drove south on 45 earlier, KTWL is continuosly staticy right on down to Beltway 8, where it goes out all together.
Not sure what type of stereo you are using to get a good signal, but I thought my Sony reciever was pretty powerful in the car. It picks up KIOL very well here in town, and KFNC as far west as Rosenberg.
______________

You are right, dahi. It is a bit clearer now, than it was earlier in the day. It is definitely not a citygrade signal by no means. I have heard a couple of the ID's as well. Never heard the one that mentioned Denver, but have heard them alternate between KTWL Hempstead/The Woodlands, and KTWL Hempstead. The personalities continue to say they are building a station specifically for The Woodlands, yet they can't figure out if they want to ID as Hempstead or as The Woodlands or both. Maybe they should just ID as Waller County, because they sure aren't penetrating much of Montgomery County very well at all.
______________

......on my next trek to the Woodlands area, I'll keep in mind to do the KTWL test drive with the factory equipped Delco radio.....from what I've been reading, its not too hopeful that this particular radio will capture this signal well out there.....then again, it may work better than my laptop with this PC5220 card at holding onto a signal with which I've posted on this board this afternoon......will see what happens.....

well, the "streaming audio" doesn't work or is dead air thus far - unless some of you have gotten it to work. or maybe there are too many trying to listen...

.....the last time I got the website audio stream to work, it connected at a very low rate (20 kbps) or something, so there may be a large number of listeners accessing it.....

IIRC, Streamaudio distributes the load peer to peer, so if the person in front of you is on dialup, it skips.

As of this morning, the stream won't open.

So you have a station that you can't hear at home, at work, or in the car. Brilliant!
______________

oh, btw....The Woodlands Radio

Hi radio friends!
I run www.TheWoodlandsRadio.com. We've been on since January and listenership is still up even with speculation of the new station for the past month. I'm still making a sale of two as well. It's been a fun hobby for me, but I've done more with it than I had ever imagined. I guess that's what happens when you're a radio nut like me. Anyway, check me out. See what you think...

Hope all is well!

Re: oh, btw....The Woodlands Radio

All I get is that I am accessing a station that is unavailable at this time.
Is the station having trouble or too many people listening right now?

I can't access this one or the Woodlands Radio stream posted below either.

Re: oh, btw....The Woodlands Radio

I just checked, and I was able to log in to both streams ok.

If you're using dialup, click on listen live 32k..
Broadband click on listen live 64k... you'll have to make a small download to receive the broadband stream if you're new to the site.

...and you must go to the site using Internet Explorer. It freaks out firefox browsers for some reason. I'm working on that fix.
