It's Here: The rock is back on 94 WYSP

You gotta laugh at people vandalizing YSP's wiki entry right now:

CBS Screws Up

On September 12th, 2007 CBS pulled the plug on the Scotty & Alex Show. On September 13th 2007, the Matt & Huggy Show, the Barsky Show, and some of the key staff at the Kidd Chris Show who had worked diligently to elevate the it into the hilarious 4-hour program it is today... or was, rather, were also pulled. This change was made for what many perceive to be no good reason, and allowed those that were axed virtually no chance to say goodbye to their devoted listeners. When WYSP moved into to their new studios in Winter of 07', Kidd Chris had in his contract that he was to have an office to himself. Little did he know that after the abrupt firings, that he would have the whole 9th floor of 400 Market St. to himself. There is only one way to get the radio personalities back...

[edit] Arbitron

Arbitron is a company that does the radio ratings in a lot of markets. It just tested out a new way of collecting radio data called the Portable People Meter (PPM). This meter can detect inaudible signals encoded in radio to know exactly how long people are listening to what station, instead of the old pencil and diary method. There new method using PPMs showed a drastic decline in WYSPs ratings, but what WYSP does not know is that their sharp decline in ratings is actually due to a SNAFU on Arbitrons's part by not properly activating WYSPs encoder. Arbitron then fudged the data.

[edit] Protest

The only way to get the radio personalities back is to protest WYSP. If you know anybody that has one of these PPMs, instruct them not to listen to WYSP. This is the only effective method to get the radio personalities back, by getting CBS radio where it hurts; right in their declining ratings.

Posters, Thoughts on the format so far, we are over an hour into it. If anyone has audio of the format change, please post it here. Thanks

RunningWithScissors hasn't posted in this thread yet? I think somebody should call 911!

i have it on cassette, just give me a little bit to get it on MP3 format (i need 2 figure out how to do it). i did record it on my MP3 player, but its a little staticy being that im in Pottsville, but its remarkable for a portable device. but the cassette i recorded is perfect because it is on the stereo. too bad im not in levittown right this minute, b/c the recording on my MP# player would have been perfect. lol.

What do I think I think i am being force fed the same garbage i can already hear on either wmmr or radio 104.5 philly doesn't need another rock station that plays the same songs as the other ones what they had was something different and something refreshing if you want to hear music shell out the 12.95 a month for sat radio at least they play good music one disgusted wysp talks fan and by the way there are alot of us and i will be linking them all to this site i'm pretty sure there not aware of it

give it time.I say one year it will be all talk again!!!but for now WYSP sucks!!!!.maybe sirius will pick up lovelines and john and jeff.

WOW THREE ROCKERS IN TOWN FOR ONCE IN A LONG TIME.....sorry for yelling but its about time, I cannot comment on YSP as of now, its too early, they seem to sound the same as two years back, minus the annoying Couzin Ed. They have to dig deep and play many, many, tunes and Hair Bands. 104.5 is the best Rocker in town, large playlist and stuff not heard since the 90's. What they are going to due is still vague, talk in the morning with O&A, is Kidd going to talk, is he still there, are they going to be music intense after O&A, are they going to air other football games on the weekend, flyers what is the format talk/sports/rock, is Frank Lario still on board he would be a great jock to be full time. I still say, if you want to be the Active Rock leader, play the rock, no talk, sports or sexual jargon. I can still remember the Tanya, Couzin Ed rants on his music show a few years back, enough to make you puke. But for tonight enjoy, presets are 1045/941/933, XM is taking a rest, IMHO Lucy, Ethel and Fred are nothing to write home about, L and F play the same tired Alternative you can hear anywhere, RFF blows them away.

So MMR moved down the dial and left Pierre Robert back up the street?

Eh. I'll give it till Tuesday, or Wednesday :-[

This is nothing like the old YSP which kicked ass and was a harder edgier rocker than now. I hope they start to moveback in that diretion, giving them the lead and becoming Philly's #1 rock station once again.

Oof. Reading the last 2 pages of this thread, you'd think everybody here was an English major.

As for the changes, they're not over. Stay tuned.

I can understand why the station released Barsky, but why Matt and Huggy? They've been there for at least 10 years.... I mean, weren't they producers for DeBella when he was there in the mid-90's?

Who needs that experience ... and union obligation ... when you can hire an intern to push buttons for a fraction of the price?

I thought CBS Radio was going to flip WYSP to 94.1 Jamz "Hitz And Hip Hop" like they did out in Arizona. This as they didn't flip that station back to rock after the Free-FM screw up. But Im only joking. Im glald WYSP is back to rock. Thats what they should be 94 WYSP and playing rock.

Agreed here. The YSP that I remember wasn't playing all this Classic Rock fluff. Aren't there enough stations in Philly playing Led Zeppelin and Tom Petty? I know the sound of this station isn't etched in stone just yet, but unfortunately it seems very much like we have a virtual clone of the MMR sound thus far. I expect YSP to be the odd loser out amongst the competing rock stations unless they evolve quickly. They need to be far more intensive with new music than the competition, and they should also go heavier. Korn, Tool, Static-X, Mudvayne, Slipknot, Sevendust, Deftones and other bands have HUGE followings, yet are seldom or never heard on Philly radio. Why not throw them into the mix?

So, RunWithScissors (wish he would) finally gets his wish, yet still so negative. People like this really seem to bother me. Maybe I am just jealous that I do not have to time to waste to spend my life complaining, hating, and being negative all the time. Anyway, I am guessing, from the way he writes, he is a wannabe radio guy, who's hatred of everything and "I can do everything better in radio than anyone else" mentality, who is currently unemployed or unhappy where he is employed. And, why this constant dislike of Cousin Ed of all people? Even if you think he sucks , fine that is your opinion, but aren't there far worse out there than him? Contradictory, he seems to like cookie-cutter jocks who do no prep and sound like they are ready cue cards or not putting any effort into it more than those that work for it? I think he even mentioned Keith Young once as a favorite to! Personally, Ed does not really do it for me either, but Keith Young? Frank Lario? What does that say about the credibility of RWS's opinion?

In the early days of KROCK NYC a couple of months ago they playing also lots of classic rock tracks and 90's alternative rock. Now, they adding more currents and new music in the playlist there. I think YSP following the same route.

Guys, it's perfectly normal for WYSP in its first few weeks rocking again to play it safe with time-tested songs of MASS APPEAL. Expect that to continue for at least a month or so.

Once the station gets its feet wet, it'll develop its own sound based on what the other guys are (or aren't) doing. One thing I can guarantee is that WYSP won't be playing John Cougar Mellencamp or CSN&Y like WMMR does from time-to-time.

At least in Philadelphia, three of the market's leading companies (whether they realize it or not) have joined together (willingly or not, obviously not) to "stop the bleeding" when it comes to Men 18-44 LEAVING TERRESTRIAL RADIO FOR GOOD. It won't stop the progress of iPods, Internet stations, and satellite. But it will at least slow them down. And if you're a fan of terrestrial radio, this is a good thing.

P.S. -- Those who think WYSP's going to be a rock jukebox with Opie Anthony and Kidd Chris in the drives forever have a rude awakening coming up, from what I understand, in a few months. The changes have just begun over there, as another postor before me indicated.

Hi everyone! Have been reading for a few years, but this is the first time I have felt like I should post...I don't know much about this yet, but I for one will miss the Kidd Chris show, if it is gone. I'll also miss Matt and Huggy, they had been there for what seemed like forever.. Does anyone know if they will keep Keith Younge on weekends? I listen to him on Friday late nights...Wonder if we'll find out tonight or if they will go jock-less for awhile? Something about that guy just always appealed to me. As an aside does anyone know if he works anywhere else? Any info on him would be much appreciated! I hope Frank Lario gets a full time gig out of this!
