It's July. Where's WMEX?

If and when they get on there will be a mix of oldies and South Shore news/talk/ sports.New studios being constructed for them, more than just a 95.9 simulcast. Maybe a couple oldies shows per day, not a full format .

Your educated guess or do you have a contact there?

Right from Perry...and some oldies DJs have said they plan to be on. (One had said weekdays 9a-1 pm..but that was awhile ago, and they're still waiting for it to return.)

>>Perry: "Should be fun and I’m sure there’s a lot of air talent around to fill the frequency with great music and memorable words.” (Fybush, Dec of 2017)

>>That formula will be all-local news and sports, he said. "We want the station to serve towns south of Boston, from Quincy to Braintree, Weymouth and Milton. It’s going to be a challenge, but we have plenty of people who can produce local content.”

He said he wants to give high schoolers along the South Shore a place to hear their achievements broadcast along with news of students who excel. --Boston Herald same time.

Haven't heard of any change in the "south shore radio" promise. He's already doing it on WATD and this is another outlet to work with-two if you count WBMS..now to just get them back on...

It's really about time that 1510 goes back on the air. Tired of waiting

Every now and then something comes up for us (me!) to realize what tough shape AM radio is in these days.

It's one thing to run an AM property already in operation....it's another to start a station (basically) from scratch, with equipment, staff, programming and the expenses that entails....and the hope(!) that it will all pay for itself.

My advice to AM owners is to combine the radio station with a restaurant. That way you can at least make money selling the food. If the food is good.

Jimmy Jay says on Remembering WMEX Facebook group that Ed P told him the date WMEX returns to air; Jimmy won't reveal it but adds he will mention when they're doing on air tests, when that happens.

To think that the broker listed WMEX for sale at a million dollars, and then someone grabbed the license for, what? 100K?

If anything, the license may have been all that was worth buying. Trying to sell the entire station for a million, including a transmitter site with a reportedly $25k/month tower site rental and thousands more per month for electricity to run a 50kw AM that sent much of its night power out to sea, and studios in the Marina Bay complex in Quincy (who knows what that may have cost to rent) was ridiculous.

Both the transmitter site and probably the studio site were financial albatrosses. With those facilities the station couldn’t have made money (or broke even) no matter who programmed it, and apparently any potential buyers knew (or learned) that. Ed was right to buy only the license and to take the time to build his own more economical facilities.

Ed Perry:
Looks like we'll have WMEX on the air soon with 10 kw day, 2 kw critical hours, and at least a watt or two at night. Our soon to be constructed FM translator should help the night coverage a bit but I think the audio stream will be our best tool when darkness sweeps over the Quincy swamp. With luck we'll get some local Thanksgiving football games on the air live and then on the Friday after it's regional morning news followed by good old rock and roll presented live by former WMEX djs who truly know the the history of the music.I'll let you all know when we schedule the opening celebration party. Bringing WMEX back with great music has always been a dream of mine. My thanks to all the radio folks who have helped to make that dream come true.

Eli P.:
1510 WMEX is transmitter testing right now with a simulcast of 95.9 WATD. Good signal here in Somerville.

update
Am getting WMEX 1510's simulcast of WATD 95.9 fairly well here in Beverly as we approach sunset

The latest FCC filing concerning WMEX:

https://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/w...xt=25&appn=101812435&formid=911&fac_num=12789

Description: REQUESTED MODES OF OPERATION

APPLICANT HAS CONSTRUCTED AND FILED AN APPLICATION FOR LICENSE, FILE NO. BP-20191024_ _ _ (WHICH WAS AMENDED ON OCTOBER 29, 2019 TO SATISFY ALL CONDITIONS), TO COVER CONSTRUCTION PERMIT BP-20180615AAH. THE CONSTRUCTION PERMIT REQUIRES PTA. APPLICANT IS CURRENTLY AUTHORIZED FOR SILENT OPERATION UNDER STA BESTA-20190507AA WHICH REQUIRES WMEX TO RETURN TO THE AIR BY NOVEMBER 10, 2019. IN ORDER TO COMPLY WITH THIS DATE, APPLICANT NEEDS THE STA TO BE GRANTED (OR PTA TO BE ISSUED) PRIOR TO THIS DATE. APPLICANT IS ABLE TO RETURN TO THE AIR WITHIN TWO DAYS OR LESS OF AUTHORIZATION. GRANT OF THIS APPLICATION IS CLEARLY IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST AS IT WII ALLOW WMEX TO RESUME SERVING THE PUBLIC AS SO0N AS POSSIBLE AND PREVENT LOSS OF SERVICE TO THE QUINCY MASSACCHUSETTS AREA.

Post on Remembering WMEX facebook group says according to Perry, they go back on at noon today...first as a WATD simulcast, "but unique, separate, live and local programming will take over soon."(Dennis Jackson)

>>WHICH REQUIRES WMEX TO RETURN TO THE AIR BY NOVEMBER 10

If they mean more than just a brief test like what happened recently, and instead mean REGULAR broadcasting for a long period then it looks like WMEX will satisfy that.

WMEX 1510 Quincy back on, simulcast of WATD.Original programming by Jan., maybe oldies weekends via WATD? WBMS 1460 Brockton should hit air later in month

Perry said in a recorded piece the FCC gave
them permission yesterday.

WBMS may also have its own programming eventually.Joe McMillan wrote on facebook, "I will be doing 9am-2pm on Brockton WBMS FM AND AM Hope Ed uses me On WMEX ALSO"

Both stations will eventually have 101.1
translators.

As we've said the revived WMEX 1510 will eventually have their own programming. For now, a WATD simulcast.Eventually am sure there'll be a website but note that http://1510wmex.com is NOT it.That's previous owners ("Copyright 2017 Renegade Radio") who do podcasts.
