It's never 92 degrees in Providence

There was a time when depending on where you worked, it was NEVER 92 degrees because of 92 PRO-FM. It could be 91 or 93 degrees, but not 92. Now we have Lite Rock 105 & PRO-FM mentioning losing the Coast morning crew & in recent memory KKB would refer to HJ WHY? Coast is "your home for the holidays" so Lite has to be "your official holiday music station", but Lite does run a line mentioning something to the effect of "when you're looking for a home for the holidays..."even though they don't refer to themselves as such.

Does anyone remember any other examples of either going out of their way to avoid any reference to the competition (like the 92 degree thing)?

Magic in Boston used to make it a special point not to say any titles of songs with "Kiss" in them as not to give any mention to Kiss 108

Sixpence None the Richer "Kiss Me"
Seal "Kiss from a Rose"
Faith Hill "This Kiss"

Overthinking if you ask me.

On the flip side, if it was within the 4 degree margin of error (between 88 and 96 degrees), on PRO-FM it would always be 92 degrees. I remember one hot summer afternoon, probably in the mid-90s when depending on the station, it was 92, 93, 94 and 95 degrees in the same hour.

Going with the name moniker thing, does that mean that Oldies 103 doesn't announce Lovin' Spoonful's "Do You Believe It's Magic," or that WBCN doesn't say the 311 song "All Mixed Up", or that WZLX doesn't say the Tom Petty song "Jammin' Me?" That would be silly...

And I bet this all began with a consultant deciding someone with a diary would give credit to the wrong station. Haven't Paul and Al done their pukey dj imitations and mentioned PRO-FM? Not sure but I know they've mentioned Joannie Edwardsen selling Girl Scout cookies in the building. Back when giving time and temp was part of more breaks stations would give the wrong time off by a minute or two to weasel credit for another quarter hour. I think Mother FCC could get you for that one.

Didn't Jimmy Gray & Carolyn Fox have some kind of an on-air friendly dued mentioning each other?

I had forgotten about this, but during the short-lived period that WGNG was Country (back in the early 80's), it was official policy that the jocks at WHIM couldn't say the temperature was 55 degrees. It could never be 55 minutes past the hour, either.

Carolyn mentioned Jimmy many times, especially during one April Fool Day promotion, when she kept asking him on the air to switch stations for that day. Her on Pro..him on HJY. Capital Cities management never let Jimmy respond to her on or off air. She even went as far as putting an ad in the journal saying...Come on Jimmy, lets switch. Carolyn.

On a similar note.............I work with a DJ who will not say the temperature is "69"............would always say it's "almost 70".
