It's now official: Sunny 92.3 beats out US 101!

The Fall Arbitron Radio numbers are out in Chattanooga, and what's been rumored to be happening, is now proven true..

Bahakel's WDEF-FM (Sunny 92.3) has bested former Clear Channel powerhouse US 101 in the ratings. For the first time in 26 years. It's an almost full point difference. Check it out at:
http://ratings.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/arb181

This is not a bump in the road for US 101.

US 101 has been hit by bad management in the past 2 years, the management team that took them to, and kept them at Number 1 has left or been fired, some of their personalities (good and bad) are gone, sales are down, morale is down, and they have stopped winning CMA Radio Station of the Year awards (this year's went to WSOC Charlotte, WSIX Nashville, WIVK Knoxville and WYCT Pensacola).

If spending money makes money, let's see how long Clear Channel lets 100.7 stay at Number 2........

It's just phase 1, not the full book. Lot's of funky crappola occurs during phases. US 101 may come back on top when the full Fall book is released. BUT they have been on a downward trend for a while. I think the award for holding their ground the most goes to WXBQ in Bristol

Also, a recent change, a station can't win CMA Station of the year for consecutive years. Only every other year. That's why WIVK Knoxville didn't win it this year either in Medium Market. (Chatt is in the Small Market category).

Guess XBQ has never applied. There's also a Cookeville station that seems to win a lot.

US101's current streak at #1 dates back to the Spring 1990 book.
WXBQ's #1 streak started with the Fall 1991 book.
Those are two of the longest current #1 streaks in any size market. With KMOX/St Louis falling out of the top spot in that market's PPM numbers, the longest winning streak in the nation now belongs to WIVK-FM, which has held the top spot in Knoxville since the April/May 1979 survey.
