Its October and Still No Don Imus

The so-called media sources predicted that Don Imus would return to the airwaves in September. Well September has come and gone and still no I-man. Some interesting developments have taken place over the last month however. No longer are we reading about Imus' multi-million dollar lawsuit against CBS. Charles McCord is no longer with WFAN, which fanned the rumor mill that he might be getting ready to re-join his long-time on-air friend. Then Bernard McGuirk is suddendly quiet after going on FOX TV during the summer months to take on Sharpton over the Rutgers incident. Personally I believe that Imus' days in radio are over with. He's 66, spent over 40 on the air and had his moment in the sun. Besides, considering how dreadful broadcasting has become since the "corporate shirts" have taken over the industry, who would want to return, especially if one is as rich as Don Imus? If Imus wants to be behind a microphone that bad then spend some of his own money and buy his own radio station. That way he can work for himself.

Don Imus is not dead in the water as you make it sound. The silence that you are hearing is the wheels turning in another area. Don will reunite with Charles McCord and most likely Bernard McGuirk.

There are three possible announcement dates in the very near future. October 15th, November 9th and January 8, 2008. If not sooner. But where is not common knowledge.

Don Imus is 67 and is still the best regarding talk radio and comedic parodies. The Radio Industry needs him.

Keep a close watch. He will be on a radio/TV near you soon.

I would like for the I-Man in the early part of 08.

If you're as powerful and talented as he is you aint going quietly into that good night.

Not that it carries any heft but on "Morning Joe" on msnbc they bring him up at least once a week.

Kinky Friedman knows a whole lot more than we do.

Besides anyone who calls our viced president "pork chop butt" while he's looking straight at him, for good or for ill, is someone I want to have the option of listening
to.

When the lawsuit was still open, Bo Dietl was talking about a September return. Once that was settled, the talk moved to January 08. While I have heard nothing about the details of the settlement, with Charles leaving the FAN at the end of August, I believe there was a non-compete clause for a three month off-air period.

It would make sense for WOR, WABC or whoever to make the fresh start at the beginning of the year, based on the fall ratings.

He isn't "sorely missed" by me. I think Imus is a washed-up, cranky, bitter, disgusting, and painfully unfunny old man. And I felt this way for quite a while before he got fired. He has said many things in the past that were just as bad, if not worse. If this news is true, it just reeks of desperation for good ratings.

I simply don't understand all the vitriol targeting Imus. I certainly don't care for a host of media mouths from the likes of Katy Couric to Al Franken but I know how to
avoid them.

I defy anyone on this board to publicly state that they have had the impact, the offers, the salaries, that this man has commanded.

The green eyed monster always rears it's ugly head but Merlin's sword will always
hack it off.

Way to co Citadel. Now let's see who's got the stones to put him on television.

Imus In The Morning....on 77....W-A-B-C......

The jingle will sound great...........

The great thing about the free market is that Imus will either sink or swim based upon whether he can attract listeners . . . so all of the bitter vitriol aimed at him will have no impact if he still has his fastball.

And the best part is that the return of Imus is probably Hillary's worst nightmare . . .

Allaccess is reporting that Citadel is close to signing him, and it says that he could also appear on 95.5, a hint that PLJ is going to flip soon. Is FM talk on the way, or is it going to be Sport on 95.5?

Citadel has no plans to touch WPLJ.

Imus is also a huge Country music buff as well. How about Imus anchoring mornings on a country version of WPLJ? Just a notion. You have to look to where the format holes are. Oldies/Classic Hits-Filled, Active Rock-Alternative-Filled. FM Talk makes no sense either, you just don't canibalize your cash cow (WABC). The only other idea I could see making sense would to squeeze WLTW from the other end and go "Lighter than Lite", and maybe mix in some older hits to tinker at CBS-FM's momentum. You could probably have some fun mixing the ratings up with this format. But with Imus in the equation I'd bet on Country. Yet I'd also bet he ends up on WABC-AM.

I'd bet on WABC too. The current morning duo does okay but Imus bring major advertising dollars with him and that will make the difference to Citadel. Move the current duo to 9a-12N...best of all worlds.

Actually WPLJ outbills WABC.

I am aware of that. However you don't blow up the franchise you have (WABC) by creating a competitor across the hall. My bet is they fix PLJ full scale and add Imus to WABC.

Yes...but you also don't blow up a station that is one of the most successful stations in the market billing-wise.
There isn't much chance Citadel will tinker too much with WPLJ and upset the golden goose. Imus would make a
lot of sense on WABC, and Sliwa and Kuby could still be part of the station in another daypart.
